Muzpe Iljam Bewafai Hai- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Yasmin 1955- Lyrics Jan Nisar Akhtar- Music C.Ramchandra.

Yasmin was a costume drama film by A.R.Kardar. The story unfolds in some obscure middle east land, in medieval period, judging from the costumes and places depicted. Lead roles saw Suresh and Vyjayantimala. The music by C.Ramchandra was the plus point of the otherwise average film. 

The story goes like thus...

A wealthy Shaikh (Jayant), living with his wife Zubeida (Mumtaz Begum) and son Ahmed (Suresh), lives of from the revenues and rents collected from his properties. The son however is spoiled and spends lot of time in harem and rather too free with the women. The mother naturally is not happy with this. She advises her husband to send Ahmed away on business errands and later get him married. The father agrees readily and he has rather already spotted a suitable bride for Ahmed, a daughter of his friend Nadira. 

When Ahmed realises  the plan of his parents he runs away from home. He meets Yasmin (Vyjayantimala) , a gipsy girl, who entertains the public by her dances. The cupid's arrow does it's work and both fall in love. Soon they start meeting clandestinely in nearby ruins. Their romance is not looked upon kindly by her father. Led by Zafar , a tribal ,who has evil eye on Yasmin, his tribe ambushes their meeting place. Ahmed is thrashed and pinned to a tree , left bleeding. Zafar poisons Ahmed's mind about Yasmin's treachery . 

Eventually A loyal tribal of Shaikh, rescues Ahmed and he is back to home. One day he observes Yasmin dancing on the street . She is delighted to see him ,oblivious to the fact that he loathes her for her treachery. She is perplexed at his bizarre behavior and expresses her anguish 

मुझपे इल्ज़ाम-ए-बेवफ़ाई है ऐ मुहब्बत तेरी दुहाई है मुझपे इल्ज़ाम-ए-बेवफ़ाई है ... उसने ठानी है ज़ुल्म ढाने की मुझ में हिम्मत है ग़म उठाने की ख़ुश हो, ऐ दिल्! तुझे मिटाने की, मिटाने की आज उसने क़सम तो खाई है ऐ मुहब्बत तेरी दुहाई है मुझपे इल्ज़ाम-ए-बेवफ़ाई है ... तू हुआ दिल से कब जुदा कह दे मुझसे क्यूँ हो गया ख़फ़ा कह दे तू ही इंसाफ़ से ज़रा कह दे, ज़रा कह दे किसने शर्त-ए-वफ़ा भुलाई है ऐ मुहब्बत तेरी दुहाई है मुझपे इल्ज़ाम-एबेवफ़ाई है ... है गवारा तेरा सितम मुझ को हर जफ़ा है तेरी करम मुझ को जान जाए, नहीं है ग़म मुझ को जब मुहब्बत पे बात आई है ऐ मुहब्बत तेरी दुहाई है मुझपे इल्ज़ाम-ए-बेवफ़ाई है ...

Jan Nissar Akhtar's lyrics depicts the agonies of a bleeding heart. The miseries of betrayal by beloved always hurt . This hurt feeling is well portrayed in lyrics. Lata's divine voice brings forth these pains. C.Ramchandra's music is captivating. One of the best immortal melodies by the combination of CR-Lata association.
