Aaj Nahi To kal- Lata mangeshkar-Film mashal 1950-Kavi Pradeep-Music S.D.Burman

The name of Film Mashal , which was released 1950, evokes the memory of three songs." Upar gagan Vishal" by Manna Dey and two Lata solo songs " Aaj nahi To Kal Bikhar jayenege" and "aakhonse Dur Dur Hai Par Dilke paas".

Like D.N.Madhok, Praddep had a habit of setting the tune to the lyrics he had written.The tune of song "upar Gagan Vishal" was based on an old bengali song composed by S.D.Burman. Since it was his own tune, S.D.Burman accepted it,but he advised Pradeep to leave this practice of composing the music to the songs written by him. This [ractice of Praddep and D.N.Madhok always created a confusion amng listener's mind whether the tune is theirs or repspective composers.As a result a due credit was not passed on to genuine tune composed by the music directors to the songs of these lyricists. 

S.D.Burman himself, never worked with Pradeep after this film, because of this reason.The song "Upar gagan Vishal" became popular and it introduced Manna Dey as a singer in main stream cinema, who was hether to Manna Dey was restricted to only mythological films.

The two Lata solos mentioned above were picturised on Sumitradevi.

 Regarding the song "aaj Nahi To Kal", Lyricist Pradeep had written a song with similar mukhada for the film naagmani, which was released in 1957, sung by Geeta Dutt and whose music was composed by Avinash Vyas. Here is the audio clip of the same.
