Amiya Chakraborty directed film Seema was released in 1955. Chakraborty's films always highlighted the social problems of women in contemporary male dominated society. Be it Sujata (Untouchability), Patita ( Destitute women) or Seema ( Orphan women, subjected to male chauvinism). The film was a launching vehicle for Nutan, a talented actress. After a long gap, she portrayed the character of Gauri, a wronged orphan girl, who has to undergo harsh conditions because of her aunt, the Banke (C.S.Dubey), who has evil eye on her and who frames her for attempted homicide. 

It is under the influence of principled ,honourable manager of a orphan house, Ashok (Balraj Sahani), that Gauri begins to transform towards reform. The film depicts the various moments in her journey to reform. Despite her initial resistance and tantrums, she accepts the congenial atmosphere of  the orphanage, begins to love her inmates and also participate social programmes. In one of such event , she sings this song, which is based on Raag Jayjaywanti.

Nutan has lived the role of Gauri. By her sheer acting prowess she has brought alive Gauri, tormented by Aunt and uncle, Gauri framed by Banke, Gauri ,initially reluctant and  throwing Tantrums at orphanage and then her gradual metamorphosis into a responsible girl. She got her first Filfare Award for this role.
