Ramayya Vastavayya...Maine Dil Tujhko Diya

Ramayya Vastavayya- Rafi, Lata and Mukesh- Film Shree 420 (1955)-Lyrics Shailendra- Music Shankar Jaikishan.

Shree 420, released in 1955, by producer Director Raj Kapoor was a film about an uneducated youth Raj (Raj Kapoor) hailing from rural area of Allahabad, coming to erstwhile Bombay for a job. Although poor he is innocent and having golden heart ( A kind of Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp shade visible here) Upon reaching Bombay he lives among the poor people living on sidewalks of Bombay road. He becomes an apple of their eyes. Simple natured, he becomes one of them, sharing their hopes and aspirations of better life sans miseries. He also meets Vidya (Nargis) a simple, principled and proud girl. A bond of love develops between them. Later on when Raju is seduced in the shady world of crime and gambling, she tries to dissuade him, but fails. When Seth Sonachand (Nemo), launches a fraud scheme of owning their houses through monetary participation, everyone is elated. They celebrate the occasion by singing and dancing.

when Raj comes to know that it is a ponzi scheme, and Seth has no intention to give the poor their own homes, he becomes disillusioned. On the other hand, Vidya ,sad and desolate can't forget Raju, despite their parting ways and remembers him in melancholic state of mind. Raj decides to quit the crime world and comes back to his poor people. When they see him after a long gap, they welcome him with both hands.

The title of the song "Ramaiya Vastavaiya" is in Telugu, which means "Lord Ram, you will come". The title alone is derived from an old Telugu folk song. Apart from that, rest of the song's lyrics (and the film) are in Hindi. Story goes, that the Telugu dubbed version of the film Aah, 1953 was so well received that Raj Kapoor was elated and showed his gratitude for Telugu audiences by having a song in the film beginning with these lines.
