Udan Khatola was a romantic film directed by S.U.Sunny with Dilip Kumar and Nimmi in lead roles. The songs were written by Shakeel Badauni and Music was given by Naushad. All the songs were raging hit. The film also was a commercial hit. Barring three songs by Rafi, all the six songs were in Lata's voice. She sang following songs:

The film's story is all about a traveler Kashi (Dilip Kumar) landing on a remote, women dominated island, because of crashing of an ill fated plane. He is rescued by Soni (Nimmi) and her girlfriends.Since as per the land's rule, a stranger can't live beyond eight days without permission, Kashi visits the Queen Raj Rani (Surya Kumari). The Queen is smitten by the handsome visitor, and grants permission to stay. She tries to woe him, to the dismay of Soni, who is already in love with Kashi. The queen compels Kashi to stay in her palace. In order to thwart her advances towards Kashi, Soni disguises herself as a man Shibu and couple of times obstructs their meetings.

Once, the Queen invites Kashi for a night boat ride during which she slips wedding ring on Kashi's finger. Witnessing this event Soni disguised as Shibu is devastated. She is helpless against the might of Queen.The Queen is openly trying to seduce her beloved and becoming successful apparently. Her hopes are dashed. The whole world crumbles around her. In her desolate state of mind she gives away her despondency by this song...

The song is beautifully composed in Rag Pilu with Tal Dadara and one of the best example of Pilu based melody.
