Synopsis of the film's story goes like this:

Rambhaji (Kuldip Akhtar) is a cruel and egoistical chief of Sajalpur village. Villagers therefore prefer a kindly natured Bhujwa( Mubarak) to Rambhaji. Rambhaji's young son Raya, adores Bhujwa's daughter,Soni, but she is uninterested in him. Shakriya (S.Nazeer), one of the henchmen of Rambhaji, when gets injured in a fight, Rambhaji refuses to aid him and whips him. Soni treats his wounds. In gratitude, Shakriya gives her a family heirloom, a necklace. After many years, Raya (Manhar Desai) comes back to village from town. Soni develops soft spot for him eventually.

Raya goes to a tribal dance performance. The dancer Raina(Ushakiran), who is Shakriya's daughter, immediately gets attracted to Raya for some inexplicable reasons. Shakriya however boots Raya out. Raya's heart, however is not with Raina but with Soni. Raina continues to woe him but fails. Shakriya approaches Rambhaji for Raya and Raina's marriage, but is rebuked by Rambhaji. Rambhaji wishes to marry Soni to another character Anand. Seeing Raya's affection towards Soni, Raina retreats and even helps Soni to elope with Raya. Howver in the end they die in each other's embrace......

Here in this song, Raina (Ushakiran), who is deeply engrossed in Raya,(Manhar Desai)'s love, expresses her feelings towards him. Raya however loves Soni (Meena Kumari), hence does not heed Raina. Dejected, Raina pours out the anguish and misery of desolateness through the song. Her beloved one has betrayed her. This agony of betrayal is causing tormented nights fully engrossed in his memories, thus depriving and driving away her sleep.

Lyrics of Song:
