Preetam Meri Duniyamein....

Preetam meri Duniyamein- Lata Mangeshkar-Film ada 1951-Lyricist Raja Mehandi Ali Khan- Music Madan Mohan.

Film Aakhein , released in 1950, was the first film for which Madan Mohan composed music. Before becoming composer, Madan Mohan was struggling for carrer in play back singing. In fact, He sang a duet with Lata in film Shaheed 1948, but it was deleted during editing.

Being a son of Raibahadur Chunilal, who was one of the partners of Filmistan Studio, Lata first treated Madan Mohan, a pampered lad of rich influential father. Even when he composed music for film Aakhein, she was not ready to take him seriously. When he approached her to sing for film Aakhein, she therefore rejected his offer, doubting his ability as music composer.

However, after listening to Aakhein's music, she had to revise her opinion about Madan Mohan. When he approached her for his next film Ada, which was released in 1951, she readily agreed. This started a historical and memorable association of Madan Mohan and Lata Mangeshkar, which later on produced innumerable musical gems, which even after 2-3 generations never fail to captivate. For the next 25 years his music was to set new standards in class and creativity. Commercially it might not have been too successful but qualitatively it certainly represented the best that ever was.

Over the years his orchestration might have become progressively westernised but his tunes always retained their Indian-ness intact and that made them stand-outs. It was to his credit, that despite his commercial failures, he never succumbed to the lure of cheap Westernism unlike many of his contemporaries. On 14th July 1975 he left this world leaving behind a great musical legacy.

They don't make music like him any more! In fact, they don't make men like him any more!

Ada was the first film where music director Madan Mohan used Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle’s voice for the first time and this led to the fruitful association with the Mangeshkar sisters, who continued singing for majority of Madan Mohan films released in the future. This was also the first film where Madan Mohan used the voices of Kishore Kumar, Geeta Dutt and S.D. Batish. Kishore Kumar and Shamshad Begum duet “Jo tum karo mein kar sakta houn badh kai” was inspired by English hit song “Anything you can do I can do better”.

The story of the film goes like this:

The Great Variety Show has arrived in the town. Who can resist the temptation of music and melody ? The show ends with a challenge thrown from the stage for a shooting contest. Carefree Madan (Shekhar) accepts it and wins the heroine Meena's (Rehana) necklace. But he loses his heart. Reaching the theatre, Madan finds to his utter chagrin that Meena has left the concern along with Singh-the hero.In search for Meena one day Madan stumbles against Rajini, heroine of Rang Mahal Theatre. But he is shocked to learn from Rajni that Meena is soon to marry Singh. Rajni prompts Madan to join the theatre. Madan meeeena and the clouds disappear. They become a sweet pair cooing love songs. . All along Singh has been noting all these developments with resentment He too is in love with Meena. Rajni has also a possessive infatuation for Madan. Lyrics of the Song:

प्रीतम मेरी दुनिया में दो दिन तो रहे होते
हम प्रेम के सागर में इक साथ बहे होते

गर यूँ ही बिछड़ना था हम से तुझे ओ ज़ालिम
दो बोल मोहब्बत के हम से न कहे होते

बेदर्द अगर तुझको ग़ैरों ही का होना था
वादे वो वफ़ाओं के हम से न किए होते
