Saiyya Dilmein Aana Re.....

Saiia Dilmein Aana Re- Shamshad Begum-Film Bahar 1951- Lyricist Rajendra Krishna- Music S.D.burman

Film Bahaar, a social film released in 1951, was the debut film for actress Vyjayantimala. Karan Diwan was Hero and music was composed by S.D.Burman. All the songs in the film were written by Rajendra Krishna.

With the advent of phenomenon called Lata Mangeshkar in 1949, many other female singers like Ameerbai Karnataki, Johra Ambalawali, Lalita deulkar faded out. Apart from having tender voice, Lata's singing had classical base. Therefore she occupied the space very fast. The singing style of other female singers became irrelevant to changing scenario of Indian film music. However, Shamshad Begum was the only female singer, who was able to withstand the onslaught of Lata. Even after the rise of Lata, she continued to get songs regularly. In many films, she sang all the heroine's songs. Bahaar was such a film. The music of the film was dominated by Shamshad Begum. Out of total eleven songs in the film, Shamshad sang six songs as follows:

1.Duniya Ka Maza Le Lo
2.Chhodo Ji Chhodo Ji kalaiyya Hamar
3.Kasoor aapka Hujur Aapka
4.Saiyya Dilmein Aa Naa Re
5.O Paardesiya Pyar Ki Bahar Le Ke
6.O duniyawalon Kitne Zaleem

All the songs of the film were chart busters. Particularly this song "Saiyya Dilmein Aa Naa Re", became a raging hit. "Saiyan Dil Mein Aana Re" was later remixed by Harry Anand for the album UMI 10 Vol 4.This was another film under S.D.Burman's music, which tasted success after the film "Shabnam".

Vyjayantimala had played a character of stage performer girl Lata, having wealthy parents, who wanted to marry her with Shekhar (Pran). However Lata meets Vasant (Karan Diwan). They fall in love and marry each other. Enraged Shekhar investigates the shady and mysterious previous life of Vasant. It turns out that Vasant is married ,  already having a daughter. How Lata's parents take this news, can only be seen on screen.

After the runaway success of his Tamil film  Vazhkai  at the box office, where it completed 25 weeks of its theatrical run, A. V. Meiyappan planned to remake the film in Hindi, with his company AVM Productions. For the lead female role, actress Vyjayanthimala was roped in, Vyjayanthimala, who had done the same role previously in the Tamil and Telugu versions, was about to make her Bollywood debut through this film. For second female lead, popular South Indian actress Pandari Bai was approached, though earlier she was considered to enact the same role in the Tamil version, only to be rejected by A. V. Meiyappan because of her Kannada-tinged Tamil accent, who replaced her with actress M. S. Draupadi in that role. Pandari Bai was credited as Padmini in this film, as her name is too old fashioned for Bollywood.

Trivia:

Geeta Dutt had sung two songs in this film, 1.Bhagwan Do Ghadi Zara Insan and 2. Sataye Hue Ko satati Hai Duniya

However, these songs do not have the distinct S.D.Burman flavour, that Geeta's songs in other films of SDB like Bazi and Shabnam have. It is believed that the songs were composed by N.Dutta, who was assistant to Burmanda at that time.

Lyrics of the song:
