Zurm Duniya Ke Sahe Ham

Zurm Duniya Ke Sahe Ham-Lata Mangeshkar-Film Alladin Aur Jadui Chirag 1952- Lyricist Shyam Hindi- Music Sri Nath Tripathi

The famous Arabian tale of “Aladdin and His Magical Lamp” from the book “One Thousand and One Nights (Arabian Nights)” can easily be included in one of the most celebrated traditional stories remembered all over the world by all age groups without any doubt. And for that very reason it has been adapted in World Cinema more than once in many languages including Bollywood. In Hindi Cinema the parable has been used repeatedly at regular intervals beginning from the early fifties till its recent adaptation in 2009 featuring Amitabh Bachchan. However, the reputed IMDB site states two versions of the entertaining tale made in the thirties too namely,
Aladdin Aur Jadui Chiraag (1933) directed by Jal Ariah featuring Abdul Rehman Kabuli, Rose, Narmada Shankar and
Aladdin Aur Jadui Chiraag (1937) featuring Narhari Narayan Joshi.
Not much information is available about above movies, hence let's move to next movie released in 1952.

Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp or Aladdin Aur Jadui Chiraag (1952)

The magical story was adapted for the first time by the producer, director Homi Wadia in his 1952  Black & White fantasy called “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp” or “Aladdin Aur Jadui Chiraag”. The film featured Mahipal, Meena Kumari, Babu Raje, S. N. Tripathi and more in the lead,  with music by S. N. Tripathi. All the special effects in it were given by the then famous and the master of his craft, Babu Bhai Mistry.
Some music composers, although they were gifted, did not get the fame they deserved. They had to wait for long to get recognized in the Hindi film industry. Srinath Tripathi, was such a composer. He started his career from Ashok Kumar's Jeevan Naiyya, as assistant to Saraswati Devi , who was first female music composer in Hindi Film Industry. S.N.Tripathi acted in numerous films. The character he often played was that of Hanuman's.  His career as music composer started from film Chandan 1941. However, here also he did not succeed.  Other music composers like Madan Mohan, C.Ramchandra, Naushad and Husnalal Bhagatram , who came after him, became popular and famous, but S.N.Tripathi continued to struggle for recognition. Alladin Aur Jadui Chirag was the first film which pulled him out of hard days of struggle. This film's music had distinct Arabic flavour.  The movie became a chart buster. The music became popular. In Rangoon ( in erstwhile Bramhadesh), the movie was Silver Jubilee Hit.
This song by Lata Mangeshkar, sung in her tender voice, laden with immense grief , depicts the lovelorn state of mind, filled with unfathomable sorrow and spasms of agonies pouring out of broken heart, due to separation from the beloved.  She is telling herself that although she cannot forget the love, she will seal her lips and not allow them to express the anguish of betrayal and separation, in any circumstances. She had accepted her destiny and is ready to suffer adversities of cruel destiny. Even shedding the tears for whatever happened, will not make any difference now, because she has already lost the battle of hope and aspirations.
The lyrics of Shyam Hindi touches the listner's heart. On screen, Meena Kumari through her sorrow filled expressive eyes, conveys effectively the agonies of broken heart. S.N.Tripathi's music is outstanding. All in All one of the memorable song by Lata Mangeshkar/S.N.Tripathi association.
