Dua Kar Gham E Dil....

Dua Kar Gham E Dil- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Anarkali 1953- Lyrics Shailendra-Music C.Ramchandra.
The tales of unsuccessful love, against the adversities of social norms and authorities, always have fascinated the Hindi Film Industry. The romantic stories of  Romeo -Juliet, Shirin- Farhad and Heer-Ranza , which ended on tragic note, have been repeatedly filmed. Although there is no historical proof about the authenticity of these stories, the viewers  liked to relate themselves with the love birds. All such movies therefore were commercial success. Anarkali, released in 1953, was such a film about the royal romance between ordinary courtesan dancer Nadira ( Anarkali title was later given by Emperor Akbar, impressed by the magic in her voice) and Shahzada of Mughal Sultanat Saleem . The romance was frowned upon by the Emperor because of difference between the lovebird's status. While Nadira was at the lowest strata of society, Saleem was destined to be future Emperor of medieval Hindustan under Mughal occupation. To separate the lovers and toughen up the prince, Akbar sends Saleem to harsh battlefields of distant and desolate Kabul. Anarkali's whole world crumbles around her. Her beloved is separated and she is left alone, lost in his fond memories.
During the battle Saleem gets fatally injured.  All the efforts by vaids prove useless. They suggest Emperor, that his soul is undergoing trauma and to awake it he should be subjected to magical voice , which can bring him back from the threshold of certain death. It is at this time that Emperor remembers Anarkali's magical and mesmerizing singing and sends for her. She also comes and starts singing. She does not have idea that the man for whom she is singing is her separated beloved, who is Prince Saleem. During the song, when she sees his face, she is shocked. She is totally devastated. Performing her duties, she dejectedly goes away, her heart shattered and bleeding from the agonies of betrayal.

She urges her grief stricken heart to pray God for the well being of Prince.  She prays that let the calamity which is about to strike, be strike upon her. She is ready to bear the plight and tribulation so that Prince's life is secured. She is even happy to accept death, in lieu of his life.  Because of separation froom her beloved, her heart is filled with desolateness and there is no meaning and purpose  left in her life. At least on this pretext,  her life will be serve some worthiness.  her whole world has shattered, besides praying for his life, nothing she can do. God is all mighty. He is the only redeemer for poor and helpless people.  She prays Him to bring Price out of this  tragedy. At the same time she urges from the bottom of her heart not to betray anyone in love and make someone's life miserable.
Shailendra's lyrics is beautiful and simple. Lata Mangeshkar as usual renders the song with ardour and passion, in her sweet voice. C.Ramchandra's music brings forth the angst of lovelorn , dejected heart, bleeding due to cruel betrayal of her beloved. Truly a master piece from the arsenal of CR- Lata combination.
