Post independence, a wave of realism  and leftist view swept in Bollywood. The country had adapted constitution based on equality, socialism.  The people were aspiring for corruption free society based equality and justice. on The friendship between Soviet Russia and India was in full swing. No wonder the winds of changes affected Bollywood also. A wave of realistic cinema having socialistic themes were made in this period. Awara, Boot Polish and Do Bigha Zameen are some of the classic examples of this change.

Plot of Do Bigha Zameen revolves around Shambhu Mahato ( Balraj Sahani), a landless migrant labour. Due to brutal inhumane industrialization he looses his farmland  and compelled to work in Calcutta as rickshaw puller. The film depicts his miserable plight in the cruel city under very harsh conditions. When he realises that the required money to square off the loan taken from village Thakur is not coming, he decides to come back to his roots. However he comes back to village only to find his land is already grabbed by factory. What remains behind a handful of soil filtering through his fist. Very tragic ending,

The filming of Parineeta and Do Bigha Zameen was going simultaneously. When Meena Kumari visited the sets of Do Bigha Zameen, she immediately sensed the importance of the movie. She requested Director Bimal Roy a role in the film. Since entire casting was already finalized , a special role of Thakurain was created for her. Meena Kumari fully justified the role. Notice the tender expressions on her face, the gentle cradling of baby, the affectionate glances..... all this make the song really lively. Considering that Meena Kumari did have baby in real life, it is admirable that she enacted the kind mother so realistically,

Incidently, following Meena Kumari's request, this song had to be pictured in haste. Therefore , the staff forgot to arrange for baby.  There was a baby belonging to an extra artist on the sets. Same baby was taken.  The name of that extra artist was ToonToon, the comedian actress.
