Madhubala plays a character of a Jahagirdar's daughter in this film (Ratna).The jahagirdar and his evil henchman Jaydip oppresses the poor by levying heavy taxes. Baadal (Premnath) is a kind of indian version of Robin Hood, who resists the injustice, steals the wealth from rich and distributes among poor villagers. Baadal and Ratna fall in love. With love come invariably the moment of separation and anguish arising out of it. This song with it's profound lyric depicts the misery of lovelorn lady. Lata's voice filled with the gloom and desolation makes this song , one of the best sad songs. Indeed it is a timeless Classic, mesmerizing the listeners for generations.
