Oh my God, what a song, its tune makes my eyes wet always and reason not known, it is an example of expressing pain in music, those who do not believe that music can make you weep, should listen it. It is absolutely unparalleled, peerless, and unmatched lullaby Hindi film music has ever produced. It never fails to evoke the emotions from within my heart.
The first lullaby which became popular in Hindi Film songs was sung by K.L.Saigal " So Ja Rajkumari So Jaa". Another beautiful lullaby was " Dheere Dheere Aa Re Baadal", sung by Ashok Kumar and Ameerbai Karnataki in film "Kismat", produced by Bomby Talkies. This lullaby however surpassed all the popularity of earlier lullabies. The song is in two parts.One is in Lata's voice and in other version, Lata sings with Ram Chitalkar (C.Ramchandra). Actually C.Ramchandra's voice was suitable for light, playful mad cap comedy songs, and he also was aware of that. He therefore has assigned the male voice to Talat. However due to Talat's dates problem, C.Ramchandra decided to take his place. His voice however hampers the beauty of the song to some extent. C.Ramchandra himself agreed to this. He used to tell a story regarding this as below.
Lata Mangeshkar used to celebrate her Father's (Dinanath Mangeshkar) death aniversy every year. C.Ramchandra, being a good friend of Lata, invariably attended the function. In 1951, Lata had invited Bade Ghulam Ali Khan for the function. Bade Ghulam Ali Khan has heard C.Ramchandra's name and about his prowess for composing music, but had not seen him personally. Speaking with Lata about the song " Dheere Se Aa Ja re", he commented " The melody is absolutely beautiful but the male voice with you is rubbish and does not suite the song". C.Ramchandra was standing just behind Lata. Unknown to this, he made the comment. However this was an apt evaluation of C.Ramchandra's voice, by an eminent performance artist like Bade Ghulam Ali Khan.
Neverthless, it is absolutely heavenly experience to listen to this song. The tears begin to swell, when one listens to lines..
