Ulaz Gaya Jiya Mora Nayanonki Jaalmein- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Jadoo 1951- Lyricist Shakeel Badayuni- Music Naushad

Film Jadoo, released in 1951, was a film produced by A.R.Kardar, and his second last film for which Naushad composed music. Naushad's last film for A.R.Kardar was Deewana 1952. Their association lasted for fourteen films. This was a psychological melodramatic film with tragic end.

Lifting a story, music or for that matter entire film from a popular Holywood film and make it suitable to Indian viewers, is an age old custom in Bollywood. It's origin can't be traced. A.R.Kardar was the Director, who was well known in the Bollywood for the theft of Hollywood films. He directed film "Dastan 1950" ( story lifted from Holywood film "Enchantment"), "Deewana 1952" ( Jipsy Fury), and "Yasmin 1955" ( from " The Son of Shaikh). Not many people were aware of these outright thefts. However Film Jadoo was another case. The film's story was taken from famous Hollywood film " The Loves of Caramen" produced by Columbia Films. A.R.Kardar, somehow obtained the print of this film and prepared the movie named "Jadoo" by copying the original film, shot by shot. For some inexplicable reasons, the Censor Board could not identify the copyright violation and passed it.

However, when Baburao Patel of Film India weekly, noticed the copyright violation he raised the matter in his Weekly "Film India". Columbia films then issued copyright violation notice to A.R.Kardar and managed to obtain a handsome compensation from him. Since Film Jadoo was erroneously passed for release, Censor Board was compelled to pass the film "The Love of Caramen" as well.

Although Jadoo was copied from film "Love of Caramen", due credit must be given to Kardar for appropriately indianizing it by sprinkling the story with songs. In fact his all films which were lifted from Hollywood, were modified to accommodate songs, because he had immense fascination towards music. The story of film "loves of Caramen" had background of Jipsy community. It had couple of Jipsy Dances. However, the songs of Jadoo had the flavour of Indian folk songs.

Lata Mangeshkar had four solo songs in this film and all were beautifully composed by Naushad. The above song is one of them, sung on screen by actress Nalini Jaywant, who confesses her helplessness of falling into love, yet she rejoices the prospect of it and coyly declares it by dancing around actor Suresh.

Lyrics of the Song:
