Jab Dil Ko Sataye Gham Tu Chhed Sakhi Sargam

Jab Dilko Satawe Gham-Lata Mangeshkar and Saraswati Rane-Film Sargam 1950-Lyrisist Pyarelal Santoshi-Music C.Ramchandra

There are some songs, which will help you when your mind is tormented with miseries and stress. This song can certainly be counted among them. This song is enchanting...soothing and healing to the heart and the soul.So haunting. so melodious. It hits you straight where it matters most. The HEART.

While composing music for a film,  composer C.Ramchandra always reserved some melodious and slow songs suitable to the tender voice of Lata Mangeshkar. In film Sargam also, he gave two such beautiful melodies to Lata. One was "Wo Hamse Chhup Hai", which I have already covered in my earlier post. Another is this song although she sings it in tandem with Saraswati Rane.
Saraswati Rane was the Marathi-stage and movie actress of yester-era who was basically a Hindustani classical singer like Mogubai Kurdikar, mother of Kishori Amonkaar. The song was recorded in Raag Dev Gandhar. This unforgettable song was a signature song for Radio Cylon's weekly programme for cine-songs based on classical music. This programme helped a lot to have an abc knowledge of Indian Raagdari music to the lame listeners
Listening to such rare collections one wonders where has this kind of music disappeared ? Nowadays such music is limited to   small music schools. I am sure such a melody in film music can still create ripples, Are there no musicians left to recreate such music? Pity.....
