Sapna Ban Saajan Aaye

Sapna Ban Sajan Aaye-Lata mangeshkar-Film Shokhiyan 1951-Lyricist Kedar Sharma-Music Jamal Sen.

Kedar Nath Sharma, was instrumental in introducing two renowned music composers, Roshan and Snehal Bhatkar. The music given by Roshan to Kedar Sharma's film Bavre Nain in 1949 became raging hit.Roshan's career started blossoming thereafter. Snehal Bhatkar also was a gifted composer who got fame for his quality music.

Another music composer, Kedar sharma gave to Hindi film music indutry was Jamalsen, whose music was acclaimed by discerned music lovers although he did not get the fame he deserved. In his career spanning 28 years, Jamal Sen composed music for 14 Hindi films. He hailed from Rajasthan and Rajasthani folk music was in his blood. In Bombay, he was noticed by Kedar Sharma, who had an eye to spot talent. The year was 1951 and two years before Kedar Sharma has introduced Roshan for his film Bavre Nain. Kedar Sharma's next film was slated to be loosely based on tribal life and their uprising and sensing Jamal Sen's knowledge of folk music, Kedar Sharma decided to have a try for Jamal Sen, and Jamal Sen did not disappoint him. His music in the film had distinct folk music flavour. Especially the songs " Sapana Ban Sajan Aaye" by Lata, which was based on Rag Yaman and " Raatonki Neend Chhin Lee" by reining actress singer Suraiyya, will certaily be included in all time classic songs. Jamal Sen's music in Shokhiyan and Dayra was noteworthy and impressive. Unfortunately he could not replicate this success later on.

Interestingly, one of his song " Beeta hua Ek Sawan",composed for Shokhiyan cpould not find place in the film, but later on used by Kedar Sharma, in his telefilm "Pehla Kadam", in 1980. Disappointed by the state of career, Jamal Sen took to alcohol, lived lonely and died unsung on April 12, 1979.

Although Jamal Sen did not get the due he deserved, his tune compositions were difficult and challenging ,just like Sajjad Hussain. He was rrevered by eminent composer like C.Ramchandra, who never spared words praising Jamal's music.

This song "Sapna Ban Sajan Aaye" is so sweet. It starts with slow rendition and gradually blossoms. The combination of Lata's honey drenched voice and beauty of Rag Yaman Kalyan is toxic. No wonder, The song lingers in the mind for long time.

Lyrics of the song:

Another beautiful song in this film, sung by Suraiyya was, " Ratonki Neend Chhin Lee".
