Doob Jaye Jo Kismat Ka Taara

Doob Jaye Jo Kismat Ka Tara- Lata Mangeshkar-Film Parchhain 1952-Lyricist Noor Lucknowi- Music C.Ramchandra

Parchhain was a film produced and directed by V.Shantaram under the banner of Rajkamal Films. The lead female role went to Jayashree, who was V.Shantaram's wife. Jayashree herself was an eminent actress-singer. She had sung in many Marathi and Hindi films like Shejari (Marathi), Shakuntala, Dahej, and Dr.Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani. Therefore it was obvious that Jayashree sing all female songs in this film also. However things turned out to be different.

Due to some disputes, composer Vasant Desai who was originally signed for giving music to this film , left Rajkamal Films. He was replaced by eminent composer C.Ramchandra, who by that time, had gained immense popularity and fame. However C.Ramchandra was determined to give all female songs to Lata Mangeshkar. His contention was that the taste of listners has changed dramatically and therefore the songs of Jayashree type singer have become irrelevant. He said he will compose music only if female voice is Lata's. Since V.Shantaram wanted to encash C.Ramchandra's fame for the success of his film, he agreed to this condition. This signalled the end of Jayashree's carrer as singer. Dawn of Lata had arrived.

Music of Parchhain was dominated by Lata's voice.  C.Ramchandra gave total 8 songs (5 solos+3 duets) to Lata

1. Ae Dard E Jigar (Solo)
2. Naina Lagake Sukh Le Gayo Pardesi Saiyyan. (Solo)
3. Doob Jaye Jo Kismat Ka Tara (SOLO)
4. Chanda Ki Chhaomein Thandi Thandi Havaaonmein (Solo)
5. Katate Hai Dukhmein Ye Din. (Solo)
6. Kisine Muzko Mere Gharmein Aake Loot Liya. (Duet with Talat)
7. Apni Kaho Ya Meri Suno (With Talat Mahamood)
8. Dil Dilse Kah Raha Hai. (With Talat Mahmood)

All these songs became popular, because composers like Madan Mohan and C.Ramchandra harnessed the tenderness and sweetness of Lata's voice in their music fully. They fully utilised the potential of Lata's devine voice to produce innumerable musical gems that continue to mesmerise the listners even after 60 years.

This song comes in the film, immediately after the credits. The hero Deepak (V.Shantaram),is totally devastated by the sufferings and miseries in his life. Tired of his hopeless life, he tries to commit suicide. However, his inner voice forbades him to do that and brave the miseries of life with valour and courage. He then keeps wandering aimlessly. On the background this song starts with sweet aalap from Lata's voice.

The lyrics by Noor Lucknowi depicts the devastated state of Deepak's mind which is full of helplessness. Unfortunate Deepak  thinks that when destiny is unkind , there is no respite from the miseries and angst arising out of it.

The journey of endless time continues. Sun and Moon keep rising and setting. The days go by ,but this makes no difference to one who is crushed by the cruel destiny. A time has come when life is full of thorny obstacles and in such harsh conditions even one's own shadow leaves one's company.

There seems no end for pains and anguish. The impending storms are determined to drown him and he has no support from anyone or respite from it.

All the aspirations and hopes of joy have evapourated and his life is fast sliding into endless vortex of oblivion. If destiny decides to abondon you, there is no respite, no respite....

Beatiful meaningfull lyrics, the wonderful tune and Lata's soft velvet voice ...all these ingradients have created an unforgettable song that lingers in the listner's mind.
