Mohabbat Hi Na Jo Samze

Mohabbat Hi Na Jo Samze- Talat Mohammad- Film Parchhai 1952-  Lyricist Noor Luchknowi-Music C.Ramchandra

"Any one can live a happy and contented life, but it takes the courage to brave a life full of miseries". This is the tag line of movie Parchhai, which was released in 1952 by producer Director V.Shantaram. V.Shantaram's films used to be well ahead of their time and normally convey social message. Take for examples films "Padosi, Do Aakhein Barah Hath, and Dr.Kotnis ki Amar Kahani. This ifilm is also no different. It tells the story of a youth Deepak (V.Shantaram), whose previous life is full of anguish and miseries. He looses his mother and sister in a dacoit raid. Devastated , he tries to commit suicide under a train, but is spared by people. While wondering aimlessly cursing his life and destiny he tries another attempt of suicide, but his inner voice tells him that nobody in this world has life which is full of happiness. Moments of joy and sorrow keep comming and going. It takes nerves to face the obstacles in valour. He abondons the suicide attempt. However there is no end to his miseries. While wandering aimlessly, he gets hit in the eye by a bullet. The accident is caused by Saloni, (Jayashree), a young lady called Chhoti Rani. She takes Deepak to her mansion for treatment. Doctors however are unable to save his eye sight and he becomes blind. During his treatment, Both Deepak and Saloni fall in each other's love.

Once when Saloni asks him to sing a song, he asks which one he should sing ? Sad or happy song. She replies it does not make difference , both are same. On this he replies that sad songs come from the inner vaults of heart, when the singer experiences the pains of love and separation. Then this song starts

He says how one can understand the feelings of love if he is not aware of the miseries it brings alongwith it ? How he can understand the melodies of anguish welling from the desolate heart.

Love is like a sword which knows only to kill. It does not know the victim or the reason for the kill, nor does the sufferer knows whether it is remedy or poison that intoxicates his life. However the sufferrer may complaint or protest, it is like thrashing his head on a wall. All the efforts are in vain.

Lyrics of Noor Lucknowi conveys the profound meaning and understanding about the phenomenon of love. Every word is well placed. Here in this film C.Ramchandra has refrained from singing himself. Instead he chose Talat , so that his velvetty smooth voice effectively bring out the soul of the song. The tune is hummable and simple.

Composer C.Ramchandra had given other two songs to Talat in this film. They are

1) Lagake Hathomein Mehandi.
2) Dil Dil Se Kah Raha Hai
3) Apni Kaho Kuchh Meri Suno

All these songs became popular. Lata's and Talat's soft and mellow voices complement each other. In fact all the songs of Parchhain were raging hit.
