The story of film Saiyan, released in 1951, takes place in Rajputana, in the feudal India, before independence. A little village girl Saiyan (Madhubala), is abducted by local zamindar.While rescuing her, her father is killed making her orphan. As per father's advise Saiyan goes to Jagatpur Maharani( Leela Chitnis) for shelter. Maharani had two sons Vijay (Ajeet) and Rajjoo (Sajjan).While Vijay is soft natured and cultured , rajjoo is headstrong and mischievous type fellow. Both try to woe the village girl. The relationship between Rajjoo and Saiyan is not kindly looked upon by Rajjoos father (thakur), who arranges Saiya's maririage with a local zamindar's son Atmaram. Enraged Rajjoo kills Atmaram and flees with police on his heels. The grief striken Saiyya's world is devastated. While fugitive Rajjoo continue to evade police, the melancholic Saiyan sings this song in a very desolate surroundings. Although she is fond of Rajjoo, she does not approve the path he had taken. A path towards the destruction himself as well as his family.

The night is full of sorrows, her heart bleeding with anguish and the ghosts of his fond memories trouble her. She rues that she offered her heart to wrong person, and in lieu of that, what she got was immense grief of all world. Now she had to while away the days in desolate sufferings.

Her eys are brimmed full with tears. Although her beloved has dejected her, his affectionate and warm memories accompany her and it is those memories that keep her sane. They are her only last resort to keep her away from endless sliding into vortex of isolation and bleakness.

D.N.madhok's profound lyrics is peerless. Every word is like pearl, capable of conveying the melancholic state of Saiyan and her spasms of loneliness welling up from her forsaken heart. Lata's tender voice and Sajjad's mesmerizing tune makes this song immortal.Madhubala even in her sad state looks so heavely beautifull. The song is treat to both eyes and ears. A priceless gem from the stable of Sajjad, having his indellible stamp on it.
