Apni Nakami Se Mujhko Kaam Hai...

Apni Nakami Se Muzko Kaam Hai- Talat mahmood-Film Subah Ka Tara 1954-Lyrics Noor Lucknowi- Music C.Ramchandra.
Subah Ka Tara was a romantic film with tragic end. As is the case of all movies directed by eminent Producer Director V.Shataram, this film also delves upon the social problem of dismal conditions of young widows in contemporary India society. They were not permitted to  befriend young men, or marry with them because of rigid social norms. Their destiny was to live alone till death. Many a widows were lured in prostitution trade. Director touches the subject with sublime dexterity and brings forth the agonies and the miseries they have to undergo.
The film's heroine Padmini (Jayashree) is a young widow leaving with her ailing mother. She meets a principled youth Mohan (Pradeep Kumar), while buying medicines for her mother. Mohan falls for her and she also reciprocates. However the social taboos regarding widows come in their way. After the death of mother, Padmini comes to paternal uncle's home, who is away to Africa. The aunt ill treats Padmini like a maid and compels her to do hard daily chores. Mohan comes there for some work, and seeing Padmini in such harsh conditions, expresses his tender feelings towards her. She rebuffs his advances, despite his sincerity. Their conversation is over heard by aunt, who drives Padmini out of home. The dejected and devastated Padmini comes back to mother's home, sets it on fire and dies in the flames.
Mohan, learning about this unfortunate incidence, goes to the burning house and tries to save her, but is stopped by the spectators. When the flames die, Mohan enters the house and tries her whereabouts in the amber and debris. But she is already dead. Mohan looses his mental balance, becomes insane and wanders aimlessly in totally devastated mental state. The end...and quite a rueful one.
Although the music of the film had fair share of Lata's voice, (She sang six out of nine songs), Talat also got two songs, one duet with Lata, " Gaya Andhera Hua Ujala" and other is this one, " Apni Nakami Se Muzko Kaam Hai". The first one is in happy mood expressing the hopes and longing of the two lovebirds about the modestly joyous life, bereft of miseries and agonies. The mood of second song is diametrically opposite. Mohan looses everything he held dear in his life. He looses Padmini and her ever encompassing love. He witnesses the shattering of his aspirations right in front of his eyes and cannot do anything about it. Life now serves no purpose for him, He becomes insane and wanders the street in derelict condition. While all these tragic events are unfolding, this song played on background, brings forth the feelings of Mohan effectively. Talat in his velvet smooth voice fully laden with pathos and sorrow, conveys the angst of a bleeding heart. The lyrics of Noor Lucknowi and music of C.Ramchandra is heart touching. All in all, an excellent melancholic song from the combination of Talat- C.Ramchandra.
