Gaya Andhera Hua Ujala- Talat Mahmood, Lata Mangeshkar- Film Subah Ka Tara 1954- Lyrics Noor Luckhanavi- Music C.Ramchandra
Subah Ka Tara was a second film directed by V.Shantaram, after Parchhain 1952, for which C.Ramchandra had given music. The lead pair was Pradeep Kumar and Jayashree. Jayashree was Director V.Shantaram's wife and used to sing her own songs. However, when C.Ramchandra accepted the assignment, he clearly told V.Shataram, that all the female songs would go to Lata Mangeshkar, failing which he would quit the project. V.Shataram grudgingly accepted this. Hence all the female songs of film Parchhain and Subah Ka Tara were recorded in lata's voice., except one song " Bhabhi Aayee Badi Dhumdham Se", which was sung by Usha Mangeshkar, the younger sister of Lata. This was beginning of Usha's singing career in Hindi Film Music.
Subahka Tara was a romantic film culminating into rueful tragedy. As in other films of V.Shataram, produced under the banner of Rajamal Kalamandir, this film also sheds light on the social problem plaguing the erstwhile Indian society, that is child marriages and harsh conditions of under which young widows have to go. The story in brief is as follows:
Mohan (Pradeep Kumar)  a socially conscious young man, meets a young widow Padmini (Jayashree) in a medicine shop, where she had come to purchase medicines for her ailing mother. From her death bed, her mother, warns Padmini to avoid befriending young men, as for a widow like her, the rules and norms of society would not permit so.  She has to live widow life as it is her destiny. After mother's death, Padmini goes to paternal uncle's home, who is away to Africa. The aunt treats Padmini as maid, without any dignity. Mohan's repeated gestures to pursue her are in vain. He falls sick. Mohan arrives at Aunt's home, for some work. She chooses him as suitable boy for her daughter Bharati (Chandrakanta).
However, Mohan is smitten by Padmini, and tells his feeling towards her to Padmini. This conversation is over heard by the aunt, and she drives Padmini out of home. Dejected and devastated Padmini goes back to her mother's home, sets it on fire and dies in it. Seeing this, Mohan becomes insane and wanders aimlessly.
This song written by Noor Lucknavi, comes in the film when Padmini following the death of her mother is going to her Aunt by Rail. She had hopes and aspirations that after so many years of dejection and harsh living conditions,  now at least she will have modest happy life. Mohan also accompanies her, and together they share their feelings.....

( The all encompassing darkness of miseries and agonies has vanished, a light of hope and happiness has suffused the life brilliantly. The twinkling morning star is beckoning. Aspirations have started welling up from the hopeful heart and life is beginning to breathe easily.  The life so far till date was like a shriveled ,dry flower, full of harshness. Will the flower of life will come into blossom again ? Will there be any respite in the future ? She wishes that this beautiful dream will not shatter and her companion won't leave her alone. She feels ecstatic, at the time, when she is turning a new leaf in her life. The sorrow and remorse in her life had vanished and rays of joy and zest have replaced them. She wants to celebrate this moment by dancing and singing. )
Noor Lucknavi's simple lyrics brings out the longing of an unfortunate girl for cheerful and contented life. C.Ramchandra's music is harmonious and lilting, commensurating to the oscillating feelings bubbling from hopeful hearts. In all, the song is a musical treat and one of the gems created by CR-Lata combination.
