Kismat Ne Hamko Julm Uthan Sikha Diya- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Subah Ka Tara 1954- Lyrics Noor Lucknowi- Music C.Ramchandra

As was the case , composer C.Ramchandra preferred his songs to be recorded in Lata's voice and many a times , his music to a film, was dominated by Lata's voice. Film Parchhain 1952 and after that film Subah ka Tara, both directed by V.Shataram were no exception. Lata had fair share of music in the film. Out of total nine songs she sang six songs either solos or duets. By this time Lata's voice had become an indispensable fixture in C.Ramchandra's music. Together they created numerous dazzling and immortal musical gems in the days to come.

For this film also, C.Ramchandra refused the voice of Jayashree (wife of Director V.Shataram and a actress-singer in 40's), and instead opted for Lata's voice. She sang following songs....

1. Gaya Andhera Hua Ujala. (Duet with Talat mahmood)
2. Kismat Ne Hamko Julm Uthana Sikha Diya.
3. Sune Zamane Ke Taane.
4. Kahoon Kanse Mai Dilki Baat.
5. Chali Ban Ke Dulhan Unse Laagi lagan.
6. Do Haklonka Suno Fasana. (Duet with Chandrakanta)

Only one song " Bhabhi Ayee Badi Dhumdhamse", went to Usha Mangeshkar, the younger sister of Lata, This was Usha's debut song in Hindi Films. Chandrakanta and Talat Mahmood got a duet each, while C.Ramchandra himself sang a song, which was sung on screen by V.Shantaram himself in a small drunkard's role.

The film revolves around a destitute widow Padmini (Jayashree), who after the death of her mother had to go under harsh conditions as maid in her paternal aunt's home. Mohan (Pradeep Kumar) is a youth in love with her. He tries to pursue her, but is rebuffed by her, because of social taboo regarding windows, prevailing in contemporary India Society. When Mohan expresses his feelings to her, the conversation is over heard by aunt and she throws Mohini out of home. Dejected Padmini returns to her mother's home,sets it on fire and dies. Mohan become insane and keeps wandering aimlessly in devastated mental conditions. A rueful tragedy offering a telling commentary on the social problem of widows.

When {Padmini has to do daily household chores, under severe and cruel conditions, she gives way to her emotions through this song......
