Before film Aar Par, composer O.P.Nayyar had done three movies Aasman, Cham Chama Cham and Bazi, but could not achieve the fame and recognition. He was totally despaired and dejected. He felt that he has no future in the film industry, decided to turn his back to the industry and go back to his place Jalander. For this he needed money. Gurudutt owed him some money from the project 'Bazi'. He went to Guru Dutt to get the money. Gurudutt also was not in position of giving him the money, therefore he requested O.P.Nayyar to score music for his forthcoming film Aar Paar. O.P.Nayyar, as a last try, accepted the responsibility of giving music to Aarpaar, and lady luck smiled upon him. All the songs of Aar Paar became chart buster. This started a new trend of light, lilting and peppy songs in racy rhythm. So was film industry smitten with this trend that eminent composers like Roshan and Mohammad Shafi has to bear the brunt of it. Both were sacked from the projects 'Mehbooba' and 'Mangu' respectively. Both movies  went to O.P. Nayyar.

The song ' Kabhi Aar, Kabhi Paar, Laga Teer E nazar' was the most famous and popular song of all the songs in the film. Comedian Jagdeep was a child artist at that time, and the song was initially filmed on him.However, Censor Board objected to this and the song had to be filmed again on actress Kumkum. This song catapulted Kumkum into glory and fame.

The song was written by lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri, who had earlier written sad and melancholic song like 'Jab Dil Hi Toot Gayaa', sung by legendary singer K.L.saigal, for film Shahjehan. The same Majrooh wrote the light and peppy lyrics like Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar'. This was another side of such an eminent lyricist, who could pen both serious and light songs with equal ease.
