Mera Dil ye Pookare Aa Jaa- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Nagin 1954- Lyrics Rajendra Krishna- Music Hemant Kumar
A filmistan Studio film, Nagin was released as a romantic musical film in the year of 1954 in September, with much fanfare. The film and especially it's music became instant chart buster. The songs were penned by eminent lyricist Rajendra Krishna and music was given by composer Hemant Kumar. His music to film 'Samrat', released in the same year was not successful. However the music of Nagin was raging hit. The film's rather lack luster story, was sprinkled with total 13 soundtracks , including the magical  been tune played by Kalyanji Virji Shah on clay violin and these melodious songs with vivacious looking Vyjayantimala's dexterous and deftly executed dance performances actually saved the film from going into oblivion. In fact, the young and fresh Vyjayantimala barely 18 years at the time, her dances and Lata's superbly executed nine songs are the hallmarks of the film. They are the chief factors why the film is remembered even after more than 60 years and continues to mesmerize the viewers, transcending generations.
Pradeep Kumar and Vyjayantimala were in protagonist roles as the son and daughter of warring tribes.  Due to the rivalry between their tribes, Their love is not without hurdles. It has to endure the tribal rivalry and the wrath of another tribal man (Jeevan), who wants to marry with Vyjayantimala. Most of the film depicts in details the progress of their love, frequent clandestine unions and separations due to shackles of social norms. Frustrated by their all engulfing love, which defies the social norms, They are confined in isolation by their respective fathers, so as to deny their meetings. Helpless, desolate and totally devastated,  she expresses the feelings of despair welling up her tormented, bleeding heart through this song......

( Without her beloved, the cool breezes, the blossoming nature has no value for her. She does not know how she will spend life without him. In his absence her entire world has become barren, devoid of any gaiety and a pal of gloom has descended on her. She urges him to tell the respite from this never ending misery.  Her whole world is devastated because of agonies arising from the separation from her beloved and she needs the comfort of his affectionate company and calls him from the bottom of her bleeding heart)
Simple,  heart touching lyrics by Rajendra Krishna, the heavenly music by Hemantda and ardent rendering in Lata's captivating sweet voice makes the song unforgettable.
