Hawamein Udta Jaaye...

Hawamein Udata Jaaye- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Barsat 1949-Lyricist Ramesh Shastry- Music Shankar Jaikishan.

With the advent of musicians Shankar-Jaikishan, a new dawn arrived on the horizon of hindi film music world. A dawn of Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh, a dawn of lyricists Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri, a dawn of Raj Kapoor- Nargis pair and a dawn of R.K.Films. It was the beginning of Golden Era of Hindi Film Music.
"Aag 1948", was the first film of R.K.Films,whose music was composed by Ram Ganguly. Shankar -Jaikishan were working as assistant of Ram Ganguly that time. Producer and Director,Raj Kapoor wanted young blood for his music requirements. He sensed the talent of Shankar Jaikishan, Hence  assigned the responsibility of composing the music of film "Barsat", to Shankar Jaikishan.
Simmilarly Shailendra was working in Railways and Hasrat Jaipuri as conductor in BEST. Prithviraj Kapoor happened to meet both in a Kavi Sammelan and he brought them in Prithvi Theatres. There, Raj Kapoor offered the opportunity of writing songs for his upcoming film "Barsat". Hasrat wrote seven songs for Barsat, whereas Shailendra wrote two songs, because his entry in R.K.Film was relatively late. Ramesh Shastry was another lyricst who wrote two songs, " Hawamein Udata Jaaye" and "Oss Muze Kisi Se Pyar Ho Gaya".

The film's music was totally dominated by Lata Mangeshkar. Out of Ten Songs, Lata sang nine songs either solos or duet with Mukesh. Mohammad Rafi sang only one song, " Mai Zindagi Me Hardam Rota Hi Raha Hoon", which was added after the movie was released. Thus, this was the first movie, which at the time of release, had the voice of Lata Mangeshkar in all the songs. This was beginning of Lata Mangeshkar era, and with the music of Barsat, her voice became a house hold name bringing her real recognition and fame.
The above song is picturized on actress Bimla Kumari , on the backdrop of picturesque Kashmir valley. The singer celebrates the arrival of youth which has transformed her wholly. Her red dupatta is undulating on the breezes of air. Similarly, her heart is also exuberant and ecstatic with joy of arrival of youth which she welcomes enthusiastically.
The much acclaimed posters for the movie were painted by the master artist Dr S. M. Pandit. One of the posters showing the heroine dangling on the arm of the hero would go on to inspire the R K Studios' famous logo.

Lyrics of the Song:
हवा में उड़ता जाये
मेरा लाल दुपट्टा मलमल का हो जी, हो जी
इधर उधर लहराये
मेरा लाल दुपट्टा मलमल का हो जी, हो जी
ओsssss

थर थर थर थर हवा चली
हाय जियरा डगमग डोले
फर फर फर फर उड़े चुनरिया
घूँघट मोरा खोले
हवा में उड़ता जाये ...
ओ sssss

झर झर झर झर झरना बहता
ठण्डा ठण्डा पानी
घूँघरू बाजे ठुमक ठुमक
चाल हुई मस्तानी
हवा में उड़ता जाये ...
