Ek Thes Lagi Aasoon Tapke

Julm Tumhare Sah Na Sake, Ek Thes Lagi- Lata Mangeshkar-Film Namoona 1949-Lyricist Nakhshab Jaravchi-Music C.Ramchandra

There are quiet a few films in which the relationship between the hero and heroine suddenly changes and Hero sacrifices his love for the heroine, due to this sudden change. The first film that comes to mind is Sharda 1957, in which the relation between hero Raj Kapoor and heroine Meena Kumari undergo sudden transformation, when MeenaKumari is compelled to marry Raj's father. Thus new relationship is created between them. Step mother and son.! Raj Kapoor finds difficult to reconcile to this new relation. Totally devastated, he turns alcoholic. However it is Meenakumari who persudes him to recover and adjust for new relation.
Second such film is Bambaika Baboo 1960, wherein Babu (Dev Anand), a criminal plans a heist with his partner, but afterwords refuses to participate. Balli is arrested and released on bail. When Babu meets him, an argument follows, leading to vicious fight and Babu murders Bali. Afraid of police, Babu flees Bombay and lands up a village in North India. He lives in a family under pseudo name Kundan and eventually falls in love with a family member, Maya (Suchitra Sen). However, when he realize that Maya is sister of Bali, his crime partner, he sacrifices his love and assumes brotherly responsibility. He arranges Maya's marriage and her Bidaai. What a twist in story !!

While it’s widely perceived that Bombai Ka Babu was the first popular Hindi film to show such sudden transformation of relationship, in actuality yet another Dev Anand film called Namoona (1949) holds that distinction. Dev Anand sacrifices his love for Kamini Kaushal because her father finds Kishore Sahu, a public prosecutor, a worthier match, but later it is revealed that Sahu’s father had raped a woman and she gave birth to Kamini Kaushal. Even today filmmakers would think twice before imagining something on the lines of a Namoona or Bombai Ka Babu but not only did Dev sahab grace these films, but also it wouldn’t be incorrect to imagine that had it not been for him perhaps they would have never been made.

Here in this song the heroine Kamini Kaushal experience immense grief, when Dev Anand repudiate her love when she is compelled to marry a wealthy Solicitor, Kishore Sahu. Her heart is broken and she is utterly devastated and melancholic. Another Lata-C.Ramchandra musical Gem, that never fails to mesmerize you.

Lyrics of the Song :
