Sajan Ki Galiya Chhod Chale-Lata Mangeshkar-Film Bazar 1949-Qamar Jalalabadi-Music Shyamsundar

It is a no-brainer that Lata Mangeshkar was the best female playback singer of 1949. In later years, that would become routine – she defined the lead female voice. But in 1949, it must have been an amazing phenomenon. Here was a twenty year-old girl who had an inconspicuous debut as a playback singer a couple of years earlier in Aap Ki Sewa Mein (1947). Who could have thought that in 1949 a dam would burst with torrent of Lata Mangeshkar songs, leaving the yesteryear stalwarts dazed? Let me, however, give one perspective. Shyam Sundar’s both songs( Bhare Phir Bhi Aayegi from film Lahoreand this one) based on the Raga Pahadi, the most common Raga used in film songs, are immortal. The song is favorite of Lata Mangeshkar and reflects in her list of her top ten favorites. She had sung only two songs, in Shanmukhanand Hall in 1982, in a ceremony for celebrating the Golden Jubilee of Indian Film. One was "Allah Tero Naam" from film "Ham Dono", whereas other song was " Sajan Ki Galiya Chod Chale". In this song, we can clearly experience the heavy influence of Noor Jehan style of singing.

The Producer Director of this film, had earlier produced a picture "Shohrat",on the same story. The picture bombed at Box office.Normally any producer would have washed his hands to the story of a flop picture. However, K.Amarnath produced film Bazar on the same story. This time it was raging hit. The credit goes to music of the film rather than the film itself. In addition to above song, Lata had sung twosolos and a duet.
