Ae dard E Jigar Faryaad Naa Kar- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Bahu 1955- Lyricist S.H.Bihari- Music Hemant Kumar.

Not much is known about the film Bahu , which was released in 1955, except that The film was produced by Oldest of Pahwa Brothers Vikram Pahwa.It was Direcetd by Shakti Samanta. Karan Diwan and Usha Kiran were in lead role, supported by Bipin Gupta, Shashikala, Pran, Amir Banoo, Manju, Johny Walker and Mumtaz Begum among others. All the songs were penned by S.H.Bihari, while music was given by eminent composer Hemant Kumar.

The film has copy book tale , emphasizing that humane virtues has their own rewards at the end. Usha Kiran is seen in the title role of obedient wife and daughter in law of a kind hearted and courageous father, portrayed by Bipin Gupta. While Mumtaz Begum plays a role of caring and loving mother, Ameer Banoo is as a nasty mother in law. Both play their part well. Karan Diwan as a erring husband of Usha Kiran;s character, seems very uncomfortable in the role. Shashikala as a vamp bring the role to life.

Despite it's strong plot, the hackneyed and singularly flat direction hinders the flow of the narrative. The haphazard direction destroys the thematic appeal and realism, which could have been there. The humerous incidences by Johny Walker again have no link to main narrative and they disturb the flow of main story. Usha Kiran tries her best but cannot bring the role to life , again the culprit being the unimaginative direction. Pran too, is ill at ease, because of poor development of character. In all, a good narative destroyed by threadbare direction.
The only highlight of the film is it's music by Hemant Kumar. especially three beautiful solos of Lata, "Ae Dard E Jigar Faryaad Naa kar" , " O Jaanewale Tuzko Ham Yaad Kyu Naa Aaye" and " Ang Angmein Umang". The avid listners of Cine music will remember this film , which has gone into oblivion, only because of these splendid songs.

The lyrics of S.H.Bihari brings forth the angst of disheartened, and despaired wife whose husband, neglecting her caring nature and affection, has lost into the clutches of another woman (Shashikala). She urges herself to endure the sufferings and pains of betrayal, not displaying them to the unconcerning world.She tells her bleeding heart to wait for the savior, who will rescue her from the tear filled life. Until then she has no option but to endure the sorrow without any respite. She has to brave the situation with determination and grit ,burying her melancholy wihin the deepest chamber of her heart. She has no qualms about the conduct and misgivings of her husbands. She has resigned herself to her fate and wants to remain drowned in the tears.....

Powerful lyrics and soulful music of Hemant Kumar makes this song special.It remains itched into the heart of listener. Lata-Hemant Kumar combination has produced many mesmerising musical gems, and this song indeed ranks one of the best it has produced. The other two Lata solos , rendered in her divine voice ,also are excellent.
