Tera Dil Kahan Hai....

Tera Dil Kahan Hai- Asha Bhosle- Film Chandni Chowk 1954- Lyrics Shailendra- Music Roshan

Chandni Chowk, released in 1954 was a muslim social film. The story revolves around a Nawab in Delhi (Kumar), for whom his prestigious Mughal lineage comes first before everything. He is proud of his ancient lineage. There are many aspirants for marriage to his teenage daughter Zarina (Meena Kumari). Nabab however rejects a proposal of a wealty vegetable seller Yusuf (Agha), because he is not from recognised Khandan. Yousuf and his friend Ibrahim (Jeevan), decide to teach a lesson to Nawab. They persuade a Gardener's son Akbar (Shekhar) to become an imposter of a wealthy Nawab from Delhi. Akbar and Zarina fall in love. Nawab decides to marry them off. After the wedding when Zarina sits in Doli to set off for her Husband's house, Ibrahim throws a bombshell, telling Nawab that Akbar is actually a mere , lowly Gardener's son. Nawab is devastated. He decides to call off the marriage. However, Zareena tells him that once a bride goes to Husband's house, she comes out only on Janaza (Funeral). She lives with her mother in law,. Akbar meanwhile afraid of Nawab's fury, flees and lands up in Misr (Egypt), where he meets a club dancer Noorie (Smriti Biswas), who falls in love with the young man and tries to woe him unsuccessfully.
Zarina tries to locate Akbar in vain. When he sends the first salary to Zarina , she is delighted and sends a reciprocating letter to him. The letter is intercepted by Noori, who by return letter informs Zarina that Akabar is dead. Her whole world crumbles around her. Nawab is also saddened. He rues that all this happened because of his insistence for Nawab lineage instead of actual virtues of a person.
After many twists and turns , Akbar and Zarina reunite at the end. This song comes in the film when Noorie tries to seduce Akbar. His heart however is not with Noorie but to Zarina. Still she tries to woe him relentlessly. She is young and beautiful who has got all the thing required for a pretty girl to whom a man aspires for. However she is concerned that his mind is not with her but wandering to someone other than her. She urges him to get engrossed in her embrace and forget everything.

Asha Bhosle's cozy rendering gives the song a kind of mystique touch. The same heavenly tune was later used by Roshan for the song" Rahe Na Rahe Ham" in film Mamta.
