Na Milta Gham To Barbadi....

Na Milta Gham To Barbadi-Lata Mangeshkar- Film Amar 1954- Lyricist Shakeel Badayuni- Music Naushad.
Mehboob Khan's films unvariably depicted strong characters of female protagonists, be it in Aurat, Mother India or Son of India. The females in his films were braving the life with both hands with courage. In the process they did not compromise with the principles or values .Amar 1954 was also such a film , depicting the strong characters of females. Sonia (Nimmi) an illiterate, unpolished ,raw milkmaid silently adores Amar Nath, a principled lawyer. Amar is unaware of this one sided love. Once in a stormy night , trying to escape from the villain Sankat's (Jayant) evil intents, when Sonia happens to come to Amar's house, in a fist of sheer lust and animal desire, Amar rapes her. Sonia's world crumbles around her. She is devastated. That stormy night changes every fabric of her life. She loves Amar albeit unilaterally, hence tries to save his name from maligning. She seals her lips and does not reveal his name to villagers. However her heart is yearning for him. The pains and agonies of betrोyal and shattering of her innocent love tormentे her bleeding mind. She expresses her anguish in the song.....

Profound lyrics of Shakeel, and lata's divine voice oozing with pathos, convey the angst of Sonia's bruised heart and her desolateness arising out of betrayal. Naushad's tune as always is captivating. One of the classics of Lata from the arsenal of Naushad.
