Jinhe Ham Yaad Karte Hai....

Jinhe Ham Yaad Karte Hai- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Pipli Sahib 1954- Lyrics Hasrat Jaipuri- Music Sardul Qwatra.
Many music Directors like Khurshid Anwar, Feroze Nizami, Rashid Atre, Master Inayat Hussain, Shyam Sunder, Pandit Husna Lal, Bhagat Ram, Hans Raj Behl, Vinod, Alla Rakha Qureishi, Shiv Dayal Batish, Madan Mohan, Sardul Kwatra, S. Mohinder, Roshan, Ravi, Khayyam, K. Panna Lal, Pandit Amarnath Second, O.P. Nayyar and Usha Khanna hailing from Punjab, have enriched the hindi film music. They had introduced Punjabi Theka and zest of Punjabi flavour in the music, which was hetherto influenced by slow, Revindta sangeet type soulful music from Bengal. sardul Qwatra was also a Punjabi composer.
Sardul Kwatra said that he was a great admirer of the femininity and beauty of “Shyama” and Shyama was a natural dancer, who will instantly start dancing to the tune composed. Sardul never touched Shyama, but being a silent admirer, he created some of the most everlasting Punjabi tunes. He gave music for Punjabi films like Posti, Koday Shah and Wanzara, which was immensely popular. After partition of India, the Qwatra family left Lahore and came to Bombay. There he gave music to Hindi films like Mirza Sahiban and Pipli Sahib, in which his favorite actress Shyama appeared in protagonist role. The songs of Pipli Sahib are great pieces of art. Sardul did not hide his admiration for actress singer Suraiya. He always longed to compose tunes for her. After much persuasion Suraiyya agreed for his film Goonj which was released in 1957. There was some dispute between him and singer Mohammad Rafi over payment. Rafi accused Sardul cheating him. Qwatra denied it, but the film industry believed Rafi. As a result, Qwatra decided to leave Bombay and he settled in USA.
In this film Agha  the PILPILI SAHEB, in his village, is in  love with  Rani(Shyama) for whom he wants to build a Taj Mahal,  But first for this to happen he should win her love ,marry her and she should die before him ! To get her love he performs different errands like donkey riding, photograpy, stage acting etc etc.. However at the end he comes to know that  Rani is already a married to  Pran.  In a side line story his friend Sundar , who  loves Kuldip Kaur, marries and lives happily.
The film bombed at Box office, because the viewers felt the plot weak and they also did not like the abrupt end in which the Hero looses ultimately. This was against the normal practice in Hindi films wherein the love birds either die or marry in the end. The inconclusive end was not well received by cine viewers. Despite the good music from Sardul Qwatra, the film did below average business.
In his short brush with Hindi Film music, he many soulful , unforgettable gems like the above song from Pipli Sahib, " Tabiyat Thik Thi Aur Dil Bhi Beqarar Na Tha" from Mirza Sahiban, "Ye Shokh Ada" from Son of Ali Baba, " Jab Tum Hi Hamein Barbad Karo", "Jaoon Mai Kahan Daata", ( All from Pipli Sahib) and " Meri Zindgimein Tum Kyon Aaye", Kyon Khel Preet Ka khela" and " Chale Ja Rahe Ho" from Goonj 1957. These exquisite musical gems are still remembered by discerned music lovers.
