Mukesh's first passion was acting in the films.He acted in films like 'Nirdosh (1941)', 'Aadab Arj (1943)','Mashuka (1953)' and Aah (1953)' (Guest Role). However, as an actor, success eluded him, therefore he concentrated on singing as his career.
The song which gave him real recognition is this song from film 'Pehli Nazar'. Actor Motilal was a relative of Mukesh. He was Hero of the film Pehli Nazar and Majhar khan was the producer. Mazhar Khan wanted G.M.Durani and Khan Mastana to sing the songs of this film.However Motilal insisted for Mukesh. Kundanlal Saigal's singing style was very much popular then. Mukesh was also under the impression of Kundanlal Saigal style. Mukesh therefore rendered this song right as per Saigal's style. For many years listeners were under impression that this is Saigal's song.
Producer Majhar khan however, did not like this song and he was on the verge of deleting the song from the film. Mukesh was very much disturbed. He cajoled Majhar khan to retain the song. Therefore this song was retained on trial for first 3-4 shows. However the response this song received was overwhelming, hence Majharkhan decided to keep the song in the film.
This is the song which established Mukesh as Singer and gave him recognition and Fame.
