Aana Meri Jaan Suday Ke Sunday....

Aana Meri Jaan, Sunday Ke Sunday-  Shamshad Begum and Ram Chitalkar- Film Shehnai 1947-Lyrics P.L.Santoshi- Music by C.Ramchandra

The music of film "Khazanchi" and "Ratan" was trend setting. Another movie, the music of which turned a new leaf in hindi film music, is " Shehnai 1947".The composer of the film C.Ramchandra first time in film industry, introduced the western flavour in the film songs.

"Shehnai" had total 10 songs, and all songs were raging hit. However, the the song worth to be specially mentioned is "Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon".The song was in two parts.First was sung by Meena Kapoor and Ram Chitalkar , whereas, second was by Shamshad and Chitalkar .Later on Shamshad Begum and Ram Chitalkar  sang many lighter, playful songs, but this was the first song by both in this genre.

The song "Aana Meri Jaan, Sunday Ke Sunday", especially crossed all the limits of fame and popularity. For this one song, the viewers used to throng the theaters. Pyarelal Santoshi ( Father of today's Director Raj Kumar Santoshi) was the Director, Lyricist and story writer of the film. However this song written by P.L.Santoshi, was not meant for "Shehnai". It was penned much earlier, and he had shown it to Filmistan's Shashadhar Mukerji. But he out rightly rejected it, on the pretext , that lyrics is useless and humbug. Then how did this song featured in the film ? There is story behind it.
Once, Shahshadhar Mukerjee fell sick, all the work of shooting and song recording came to standstill. Another partner of Filmistan Studio Rai Bahadur Chunilal ( Father of composer Madan Mohan) felt that it will take long time to recover Shashadhar from sickness, therefore work should commence without waiting for him to recover, so the work of song recording was started. However, there was no lyrics ready. P.L.Satoshi, then produced the this song lyrics. Simultaneously, he warned C.Ramchandra, that the lyrics is rejected by Shahshadhar Mukerjee, and he would tear them apart, if he knows that the song is included in the film. C.Ramchandra, however, decided to record the song, because he sensed a good song in making. Eventually the song was recorded. Rai Bahadur Chunilal, Ashok Kumar ( Another partner of Filmistan Studio that time), Santoshi and C.Ramchandra, all liked the song. The song was popular in Studio canteen even before release. Seeing this, after recovering from sickness,Shahshadhar Mukerjee, agreed to include it in the film. Rest is the history. The song was based on a Goan Tune heard by C.Ramchandra earlier.

By this song, first time Indian folk music was superbly blended to western tune, which was a refreshing change from monotonous songs. In that sense, this song deserves a place, in hindi film music history.
