Kahe Koyal Shor Machayen Re...

Kahe Koyal Shor Machayen- Shamshad Begum- Film Aag 1948-Lyricist Behjad Lucknavi- Music Ram Ganguly.

Very good voice and rendering, but a rather staid presentation on screen ... It does not excite the viewer. However, please do remember this was 1948 and there  was no intention of these great artists to excite viewers, it was all about art, in lyrics, in music, in singing and in expressions...
This tune was actually prepared by Shankar Jaykishan, who were assistants to music director Ram Ganguly in this film, but Ram Ganguly claimed it as his own composition. SJ reported the matter to Raj Kapoor, who removed Ram Ganguly from his company and retained Shankar Jaikishan, who then formed a permanent fixure of Raj Kapoor's team. The Song was taken from a Sindhi folk song, and conveys the sorrow, the grief and pains of partition. She remembers the old golden days before the partitions and her beloved ones. She is so melancholic, that even the koyal's sweet chirping is annoying her. Her heart is bleeding and she feels desolate because of this. She wishes to meet them before death catches her.
Shamshad Begum, through her voice, effectively conveys the despair of separation. Sadly, this was her last song in R.K.Films. She never worked for Raj Kapoor in coming days.

Lyrics of the song :
Kaahe koyal shor machaaye re,
Mohe apanaa koi yaad aaye re
Kah do kah do, koyal se na gaaye re,
Ho mohe apanaa koi yaad aaye re

Usane kaahe ko nain phiraaye re,
O, koi jaake use samajhaaye re,
Mere dil se jo nikale haay re
Koi dosh meraa batalaaye re)

More nainon men neer bhar aaye re,
Mohe biite woh din yaad aaye re)
Haaye aag lagi hiraday men,
Ho, koi hiraday ki aag bhujhaaye re

Mera jeevan pal pal jaaye re,
Rahoon kab tak aas lagaaye re
Koi jaake use samajhaaye re,
O, meri maut se pahale aaye re
