Geeta Dutt was lucky to get the opportunity of singing six songs in film " Do Bhai", in the start of her career. Similarly, Umadevi was also fornute enough to have four songs in her voice in film "Dard 1947", the songs of which were written by Shakeel and music composed by Naushad. This,despite the fact that Suraiyya , who was in lead role in this film was herself an accomplished singer.

The popularity of the song " Afsana Likh Rahi Hoon"  is still intact.The song brought Umadevi in limelight.  However, her singing career was short lived. With the advancing age, with her heavyweight body, she turned to comedy roles on screen and became famous as "TunTun"
