Aawaj De Kaha Hai- Surendra and Noor Jehan- Film Anmol Ghadi 1946-Lyricist Tanveer Naqvi- Music Naushad Ali

Following the film 'Zeenat (1945)', it was the film 'Anmol Ghadi (1946), which helped Noor Jehan to reach at the summit of popularity and fame. This was the 4th film of Mehboob khan Productions. The association of Mehboob khan and Naushad started from this film, and it continued till film 'Son of India', with exception of film 'Aawaj' and 'Paisa Hi Paisa'

This immortal song is written by Tanveer Naqvi (who migrated to Pakistan after partition),sung by Singer Surendra and Melody Queen of yesteryear, Noor  Jehan, and based on Rag Pahadi. Released in 1946,with top star cast of Actor-Singers like Surendra, Suraiyya and Noor Jehan. All the songs of the film were super hit. And the most memorable song was of course Awaaz De Kahan Hai '. Even today this song is popular although 61 years, it never fails to mesmerize the listener's heart. An essential criteria for Timeless Classic !!

The film Anmol Ghadi was obviously a super hit. Awaaz De Khana Hai was most favorite song of Noor Jehan. She made sure to sing this song in live performances whenever she performed on stage in Pakistan. . This song, although a duet, was completely dominated by Noor Jehan, although in the end Singer Surendra sings with his calm and peaceful voice, the antara 'Kismet Pe Chha Rahi Hai Kyon, Raat Ki Siyahi'

In 1946, after songs of Anmol Ghadi became super hit, Noor Jehan became Number One Singer of India at that time. But then came partition of India in 1947. Noor Jehan migrated to Pakistan right after the partition and continued her singing and acting career over there. Pakistan Govt. felicitated her by awarding her the supreme musical title of  “Malika-e-Tarannum”, the most coveted award in Pakistan. Most of the time like Surraiya, Noor Jehan sang in the films in which she acted. Noor Jehan was very beautiful. Like Surraiya, Noor Jehan was a confluence of beauty and melodic voice.

In early 1980’s, Noor Jehan was invited to Mumbai to attend a Grand Gala Function of music. The function was held on February 11th, 1982, which was named as “Mortal Men, Immortal Melodies” at Shanmukhanand Hall of Matunga, Mumbai. The function was attended by eminent composers, actors and Directors. Noor Jehan  was the special guest of the function. She landed in Mumbai after 35 years (she left in 1947). She had tears in her eyes. She was very nostalgic when she arrived at the hall. And the first song that she sang was of course Awaaz De Kahan Hai and she also sang antara  that Surendra sang in the original song (Kismet Pe Chha Rahi Hai..) but she did that while apologizing to Surendra. After the song ended, 7000 hands clapped and Noor Jehan was given standing ovation. Every music lover had tears in their eyes, since it brought back nostalgic memories of 1940’s. Noor Jehan also could not control her emotions.  It was certainly a day to cherished in mind forever.!!

Lyrics of the Song
