Chahe Naina Churao Chahe Daman Bachao

Chahe naina Churalo Chahe Daman  Bachao-Talat Mahmood, Lata Mangeshkar- Film Aas 1953-Lyrics Hasrat Jaipuri- Music Shankar Jaikishan

Bollywood traditionally is obsessed with Sas-Bahu stories. Bahurani 1963 or Sau Din saske are some of the examples. The movie Aas released in 1953, and directed by Devendra Goel also follows the Sas-Bahu cindrella type of tale as it's plot.
Ashok (Shekhar), a widower, loses his son and offers reward for whoever finds him. Asha (Kamini Kaushal) finds him, but refuses the reward. This impresses Ashok, so when a need arises to find a governess for his son Kishor, and when Asha applies for the job, she lands in it automatically. Kishor gets well along with Asha, who is gentle and of kind nature. Not before long Ashok also falls for her. They get married and have a son Munna.
The twist in the story comes in the form of Ashok's guardian Chachaji (Laxmibai). She had her own agenda of marrying her own niece with Ashok. She disproves Asha. She tries to poison Ashok's mind for Asha. Once she mixes poison in Kishor's milk. When Asha is about to give milk to Kishor, Chachaji spills it (accidentaly at the outset). When a cat in the home drinks it , it dies. Chachaji succeeds convincing Ashok that Asha is after Kishor's life, so that all the estate will go to her own son Munna.
Enraged, Ashok drives Asha out of home. Lost and confused ,for Asha her world crumbles around her. All her dreams of happiness vanish. However it is  Masterji (Om Prakash), who revives her spirits and urges her to take the fight to enemy's door. She renters Ashok's house under disguise and manages to dispel the misunderstanding and bring the justice back.
Director Devendra Goel was instrumental in introducing two music Direcctors , Madan Mohan (Film Aakhein 1950) and Ravi (Film Vachan 1955). Later on Ravi became a permanent fixture in Devendra Goel's movie right from Vachan to Aadmi Sadak Ka. However for this one film Aas was an exception to this. Shankar Jaikishan duo were hired to score the music. It was no wonder then that the film's music was dominated by Lata Mangeshkar , who was at the zenith of her singing career. Apart from two duets (each one with Mukesh and Talat), she sang five solos in the film. All the solo songs became popular, however the song Zulm Ki Nagarimein stands apart.

Another beautiful so song by Lata ,comes in the film when Asha is driven out of home along with her son Munna. Desolate and helpless, she is wandering lonely. She expresses the pains in her grief stricken heart by this song..' Zulm Ki Nagarimein'
