Kishore Kumar used to sing peppy comedy songs with racy rhythm. Whenever such songs need recording, Kishore Kumar was usually assigned for the job. However he had also sung sad and slow songs. 'Husn Bhi Hai Udas Udas' is such a song which was recorded for the movie 'Fareb', released in 1953.. When composer Anil Biswas decided to get this song recorded in Kishore's voice, Lata Mangeshkar and Manna Dey thought the idea insane. They were pretty sure that such song is not Kishore's cup. Anilda accepted this as challenge. Before recording he told Kishore that this song has become a prestige issue and reputation of both of us is on stake. Anilda advised Kishore to rehearse it carefully with hard work and effort.

Kishore Kumar also worked hard and rehearsed the song many times. The result was this soulful melody. Even Lata Mangeshkar and Manna Dey were surprised after listening the song and they complemented both Kishore and Anilda for their innovative idea.

Kishore Kumar was the Hero of film Fareb, but this film was not comedy, hence Kishore's role was also serious. Therefore Kishore got serious songs in this film. Another of his famous serious song in this film was a duet with Lata Mangeshkar' 'Aa Mohabbat Ki Basti Basale Ham', which is also a beautifully composed and rendered song. However Fareb will be remembered for the song 'Husn Bhi Hai Udas Udas', which stands apart from other song in it's uniqueness.
