Eminent producer Director V.Shantaram's name is synonumous to movies portraying  social  problems plaguing the Indian society. His films like Parchhain, Dahej, Admi, Do Ankhe Barah Hath and Teen Batti Char rasta highlight different social lacunae  of the society. Surang, released in 1953 was one of such film. The film highlights the plight of stone quarry worker and the harsh conditions in which they live.
When one of the workers dies, the workers under the leadership of young worker (CHandrashekhar) approach the owner of quarry to address their grievances. The owner's daughter (Sheila Ramani), rejects their demands ,telling that people die daily and advises them to continue working. The owner however promises to look into the matter. Pagli a crazy worker girl (Shashikala), however is not hopeful of the promises.
In the meanwhile, the owner's son (Vikas) comes from abroad. He begins to take interest in Pagli, and through her he comes to know the severe conditions in which workers live. The interaction between the owner's daughter and workers also result into her change of heart, thus ending workers sufferings.
In this song, when Ramesh is aggrieved to witness the sufferings of worker under traumatic conditions, Pagli advises him to brave the life as it comes and learn to welcome it with both hand, by helping the destitute.
