Patita, released in 1953, and directed by Amiya Chakraborty was a high voltage romantic film, touching the sensitive subject of a destitute woman, who is raped, and a corageous youth who accepts her despite her stained past. Even now, the state of maligned women in India is no different. Society spurns them and makes their life dificult by constant taunts. No wonder, the theme was way ahead of that time. However, unlike Aah, Aas and Naya Ghar, for which Shankar Jaikishan duo had given music, film Patita was a runaway hit, because of it's daring narative, tight story , superb acting by Usha Kiran in protagonist role and Shankar Jaikishan's melodious music.

All the songs of the film became raging hit. Composer Shankar Jaikishan's mellifluent compositions to the lyrics of Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri added value to the product. This song, 'Hai Sabse Madhur Wo Geet', is inpired by English poet Shelly's poem ' Our sweetest songs are those that tell of a saddest thoughts'. It comes in the film ,when despite knowing the unfortunate saga, occurred in Radha's (Usha Kiran) past, Nirmal (Dev Anand), accepts her and her child without any second thought. However, after marrying with her, he avoids telling his mother about Radha's past. When his mother comes to know, she drives Radha away from the home, in absence of Nirmal.  Nirmal after coming back, meets her and consoles her.....
