Aakh Khulte Hi Tum Chhup Gaye Ho Kahan.......

Aakh Khulte Hi Tum Chhup Gaye Ho Kahan- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Munimji 1955- Lyrics Sahir Ludhianvi- Music S.D.Burman.
Munimji , released in 1955 was a romance film featuring Dev Anand and Nalini Jaywant in lead roles. The film was later remade in Telgu as " Inti Guttu". The plot is quite complicating. Kala Ghoda , a dacoit is actually Ratan (Pran), who is raised by Captain Suresh. (S.L.Puri), after the death of his friend Ramlal. Bela,( Amita) a dancing village girl is his accomplice. Captain has promised to get his ward married to his only daughter Roopa. Cut to Malti (Nirupa Roy), who is maid of Ratan and has a son Amar (Dev Anand). The mother treats Amar unfairly as against Ratan. Amar is resigned to such treatment. The reason for her un-motherly behaviour comes in a flash-back.

Many years ago, Ramlal has abondoned his marriage with Malti ,for second marriage. They have a son, Amar. Malti's claim about the rights of Amar, is repudiated by Ramlal. To safeguard her son's rights , Malti switches the babies. Ramlal comes to know this and demands his son back. However by some queer destiny, he dies of snake bite. Malti is straddled with two babies, Ratan and Amar, who moves around in disguise of Munimji. Both love the same woman Roopa (Nalini Jaywant). Their motives however are different one for love while other is after her money.
Amar figures out that Ratan is actually dacoit Kala Ghoda. He sets in the jungle to get him back. He eventually finds Ratan, wounded with police on his feet. Amar brings him back and recuperates. After recovery, however, Ratan is ungrateful. They both try to woe Roopa after her arrival from abroad. Amar tries to woe her the disguise of Munimji and his alter ego Raj,a smart Dev Anand without mustache. Roopa also reciprocates Raj's love.. Ratan is jealous of Amar obviously. Malti, knowing Raj and Amar are same person, pleads him to forget Roopa for Ratan's sake. The bitter Amar agrees sadly. Now he and Roopa are heart broken. In the state of desolateness, Roopa sings this song to give away her feelings of anguish arising out of separation with her beloved.

(I was lost in the deep slumber of your love, but when my eyes opened, you were gone. Where are you ? you were present just now and and now I find you missing. Your fragrance is still lingering in the air. The sounds of your feet is still felt in the surroundings. The branches still bear the signs of your fingers caressing them with love.
You will still occupy my private world  even after your departure. You all encompassing presence will always be felt by me at all times. You are in my blood, in hot tears welling up from my sorrow filled eyes. You are in my sighs and agony filled bleeding heart. Your presence is felt in the glittering stars, your shadow is lurking in the sheen of moonlight. You were here just now, where are you, where are you...?)

The lyrics of Sahir is captivating , the music capable of bringing forth the melancholic state of Roopa and her pangs of separation. Lata has rendered the song is her ardent and divine voice. On screen Nalini Jaywant, as Roopa , pours the angst of a broken heart in quite admirably. In all aspects the song is audio-visual treat.
