Meri Ulfat Soyi Hai Yahan. and Mohabbatne Kaise Diye Hamko Dhokhe

Meri Ulfat Soyi Hai Yahan- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Ootpatang 1955- Lyrics D.N.Madhok- Music Vinod.
Vinod, which was screen name for Erik Roberts, was a gifted composer who created a niche in Hindi Film Music by his sheer quality of songs. This was at the time when eminent composers like Naushad, Shankar Jaikishan, C.Ramchandra, S.D.Burman were at their peak of creativity. Composer Ghulam Hyder, who identified and nurtured Lata's talent, introduced Lata to Vinod. The Lata -rafi duet " Lara Lappa Lara lappa Layi Rakhda", from film Ek Thi Ladki, for which Vinod gave music ,became immensely popular. Thereafter Vinod shifted to Bombay. He composed music for total 32 films. The major films were Chaman (Punjabi)-1948, Ek Thi Ladki (1949), Anmol Ratan (1950), Wafa (1950), Aag Ka dariya (1953), Ek Do Teen (1953), Ootpatang (1955), Makkhichoos (1956) and Shekhchilli (1956). Although he composed music for less films, compared to other successful composers of that era, whatever music he gave was sterling gold. Majority of films he got were B grade films with bizarre names like Makkhichoos, Ootpatang, Garma Garam, Shekhchilli etc. However that did not stop him to give melodious songs of high quality. Vinod had no Godfather like Shankar Jaikishan had in producer-actor Raj Kapoor and producer Amiya Chakravarty and Naushad had in producer Mehboob Khan. Roop K. Shori, for whose films Vinod composed many songs, did not belong to the big league. He did on average 2-3 films per year, but that was not sufficient for decent living in the city like Bombay. He died penniless at the age of 37, on 25 Dec'1959. In film Ootpatang, Vinod gave stellar performance. Although the film was promptly forgotten due to weak plot, bizarre incidences and unimaginative direction lacking any creativeness, Vinod's music stood out. Particularly the songs by Lata are still remembered by music lovers. Lata had following songs in the film:
1. Meri Ulfat Soyi Hai Yahan.
2. Mohabbat Ne Kaise Diye Hamko Dhokhe.
Both these songs were classic songs in sad mood. Lata's divine voice has made them heart wrenching. The film's other songs were sung by Rafi and  Sudha Malhotra, but the above songs stand apart due to their sheer quality.
