In order to highlight the age old tradition of Guru Shishya tradition in the field of Indian Classsical Dance, V.Sahantaram, who himself adored the legacy of beauty and art of Indian Culture, produced on grand scale a film " Jhanak Khanak Payal Baaje in 1955. He took noted dancer Gorp Krishna and Sandhya ,his second wife in lead roles. They were supported by Madan Puri, Keshavrao Date, Nana Palshikar etc. The splendid music was imparted by noted composer Vasant Desai, while the songs were penned by Hasrat Jaipuri. The plot of the film essentially, is about the complex relationship between Giridhar, ( Gopi Krishna), a dancer and pupil of Managal Maharaj (Keshavrao Date) and Neela (Sandhya ), a dancer who wants to absorb the art of classical dance under Mangal Maharaj's baton. Managl Maharaj accepts her plea to teach her dancing under the condition that she devote her total attention to dancing and partner Giridhar in performing Tandav Nritya in the upcoming dance competition. However while practicing with Giridhar,  Neela, impressed by his dancing skills, looses her heart to Giridhar. In the absence of Mangal Maharaj, who goes outstation to buy costumes for the competition, their love blossoms. They neglect dancing while spending time in each other's company in idllytic walks in Gardens and boat rides.

Upon his arrival, when Mangal Maharaj comes to know that both are in love, and dancing has taken backseat, he is enraged. He resolves to leave Giridhar. Dismayed that she is the cause of downfall of Giridhar's career, Neela pretends to betray him and tries to comit suicide. A kind Sadhu (Nana Palshikar) saves him. She then follows the example of Minstrel Meerabai. 

After lot of twists in the story and grand extravagant Tandav Nritya competition, which Giridhar wins with the help of Neela at the fag end of film, Mangal Maharaj, convinced of truthiness of their love, agrees for the marriage between Giridhar and Neela. This song comes in the film, when during learning the art of dancing, with Giridhar, Neela begins to have tender feelings towards him. A bond of love begins to develops between them. She expresses her feelings by this song while serving him.

Lata at her best ! Vasant Desai, a gifted music Director, whose numerous sweet songs were wasted, as Shantaramji, insisted for his wife Jayashree on screen singing them. He got Lata for this film and look, what enchanting score he presented! The Taans in the conclusing part of the song take listener to a different world of pure joy. Unfortunately the beauty of the song is marred by unimaginative filming, which has done great injustice to singer and composer. The heroin is simply busy in making arrangement for Hero's meals...So uncreative !!
