Director Vasan achieved a casting coup by taking tragedy king Dilip Kumar and debonair Dev Anand in this film, released in 1955. This has become the unique identity of the otherwise ordinary film with ordinary plot and average direction values. The two legends never came again face to face in any film in future. Dev sported mustache in this film. He again sported it in film Gambler ,but both times he seemed awkward in this get up. Both films bombed on box office. Afterwards he never dared to wear mustache. 

The lead pair was Dev Anand and Bina Rai, In the same year Dilip Kumar's Devdas was released and he was riding on the title of tragedy king. In this film also he got role having a tinge of tragedy and sacrifice.

Bhanu (Dev Anand) is a brave soldier in evil Zingoora's (Jayant) army ,who used to pillage the villages under the kingdom with glee, until once during a raid on a village , a village girl Durga (Bina Rai), slaps him and gives him a mouthful of sermon on the evil deeds he performs. The reformed Bhanu returns to Zingoora and denounces violence and oppression. The skeptic and furious Zingoora gives a week to Bhanu for reconsidering his decision.

Bhanu returns to village and helps the villagers to defend themselves against the impending Zingoora attack after a week. Mangal (Dilip Kumar) is a childhood friend of Durga, who silently loves her. After initial suspicions and reluctance,  charmed by Bhanu's  reformed persona, Durga begins to have tender feelings towards him . Bhanu is also reciprocating her feelings. So, we get a love triangle here.... Bhanu, Durga and Mangal. True to Bollywood tradition, One of the suitor must die to solve the problem, and yes, you guessed it correct. It is Mangal (Dilip Kumar) who gets killed during the attack , while saving Durga.  The end.

While preparing the villagers for defence against Zingoora's attack. Durga and Bhanu come in contact frequently. A bond of love and affection begins to develop. The joyous Durga and Bhanu by this song, express their tender feelings towards each other....
