Tera Dard Dilmein Basaa Diya, Tuze Apna Ham Naa Bana Sake

Tera Dard Dil me Basa Diya- Lata Mangeshkar - Film Rukhsana 1955- Lyrics Tanveer Naqwi- Music Sajjad Hussain.
Talwars film Rukhsana, released in 1955,was a romantic adventure film, with a story that unfolds in a non discreet medieval kingdom. All the ingredients of romance and thrills are there. a weak-willed monarch, his beautiful daughter, a bold rebel who wins her heart, an evil vazeer, discontented subjects, and an ambitious princess.

The lead pair was Kishore Kumar and Meena Kumari as Prince and Princess. The music was given by eminent albeit much underrated composer Sajjad Hussain.
Despite having renowned star cast like Kishore Kumar, Meena Kumari and Shammi , the film flopped miserably due to stereo typed weak plot presented in stereotype way, the poor character development. The The logic defying coincidences, the unconvincing events bespeaks the amateurish direction. The absurd fights turn the film into farce.
Amidst all the gloomy things though, there is something to cheer about. Meena kumari as princess Rukhsana is beautiful, young and fresh. Kishore as prince makes his absurd role believable by his sheer acting skills. Sajjad's Hussain had given sparkling music in Sangdil earlier, but his music in thei film is comparatively lack lusture. The three songs " Tera Dard Dilme Basa Diya" , Kishore- Asha duet " Tere Jahanse Chal Diye", and Asha Bhosle solo" Tumhe Ham Yaad Karte Hai" ,however are superb and in his usual Sajjad style. It is because of these three songs, that the otherwise forgotten film is now remembered by avid listeners of Hindi Film Music.

( No body can erase, what is written in destiny. The sorrow of separation is deeply embedded in my bleeding heart. I am not able to have you in my life. No sooner did we met and fall in love we separated. It was a brief encounter which devastated my life in the end making it barren, devoid of any hope. All the endearing things I wanted to tell you were left unspoken in my heart.  However my broken heart will always pray for your well being wherever you are. Let the cruel destiny play mercilessly with my life ,let the sorrow filled events descending like the bolts of lightening,  torment me, but I will always pray for  your life free of any sorrow, despair and desolation. No one can alter destiny and it is a fact that I have lost you, nothing left except to lament your loss)
The lyrics is simple, but effectively conveys the profound pains of a bleeding heart. Sajjad's music seems easy to hum but it is not. It easily blends with the painful lyrics to depict the tormented mind resigned to destiny
