Dil Matwala Lakh Samhala

Dil Matwala lakh Samhala - Talat Mahmood -Film Bewafa 1952 lyrics Sarshar Sailani- Music A. R. Quereshi.

Bewafa which was released in 1952, was a kind of romantic film involving a love triangle. Usually in a love triangle, out of three one person sacrifices his or her's life to enable other two to unite. Bewafa however turns out to be different from this tradition. Here all the three people die in the end, leaving viewer totally perplexed and depressed. The lead pair is Raj Kapoor and Nargis and third angle of the love triangle is Ashok Kumar In a way this is the film has tragic end. The plot of the film is like this...

Roopa (Nargis ) is leaving in a chawl, with her alcoholic uncle, who treats her badly and even beats her for not supplying alcohol. One day he beats her and drives out of home. Her neighbor Raj (Raj Kapoor) offers her emotional as well as financial help by lending some money.

Her uncle keeps ill treating her so much that on one occasion when he throws her out of the house, she vows never to come back again and goes to kill herself. However she changes her mind. Exhausted, she keeps wandering aimlessly and falls asleep under a tree.

She wakes up to find herself in a struggling painter's (Ashok Kumar) home. He gives her support by offering a job of model for paintings. She proves lucky for him His paintings become famous and fetch money as well. In the process Ashok falls in love with Roopa but does not reveal it to her. Everything seems going well, when the twist in the story comes. In comes Raj in her life. Remembering his help in earlier days, she welcomes him and slowly in her mind, she begins to love him. Ashok cautions her about Raj, advises her to keep away from him because he thinks Raj is after her wealth.

Roopa however sweeps away all precautions and goes with Raj taking her ornaments. The inevitable happens. We learn that Raj is in bad company of hoodlums and being forced to loot Roopa's wealth. Noticing his odd behavior and restlessness Roopa becomes suspicious. One day, when Roopa pretends asleep, Raj steals the suitcase of ornament and runs away leaving her devastated. His hoodlum partners think that he is ditching them and running with ornaments. They shoot him dead.

Repenting her grave folly, Roopa comes back to Ashok's home, only to find him dead, in front of his last painting which shows Roopa and Raj in romance and Ashok clutching his art in agony suffering from heart attack. Through this painting, Ashok was predicting the turn of future events. Shocked Roopa loses all semblance of sanity and guilt of Ashok's murder kills her..The end..

This song comes in the film, when Raj enters in Roopa's life and he seduces her by singing the song. Talat's velvet smooth voice effectively brings forth the joy of their reunion and hopes of starting a new life full of love and happiness. On screen the affectionate glances of Roopa and Raj to each other shows the love nestling within their minds. Composer A. R. Quereshi 's melodious tune adds to the beauty of song and makes it a treat to ears
