Mai Pagal Mera Manwa Pagal....

Mai Pagal Mera Manwa Pagal-Talat Mahmood-Film Ashiana 1952-Lyricist Rajendra Krishna-Music Madan Mohan

Although the music of film Ashiana was dominated by Lata's voice, two beautiful songs were given to Talat Mahmood.

1.Mera Qarrar Le Jaa
2. Mai Pagal Mera manwa Pagal.

Both the songs were depicting the melancholic mood of Hero Raj Kapoor, when he loses his childhood love. Although his beloved Nargis dies at the time of her wedding, he never believes she is dead. He is assured that she will come back to him and ultimately they will reunite. In this mental state, he imagines that she is calling him to her mystic world. He keeps hearing her voice enticing him to her embrace. Others consider his imaginations as his hallucinations and feel that he has crossed the threshold of sanity. They call him Pagala.

The distressed Raj then sings this song to express the waves of bitterness welling up his desolate heart. Talat has succeded in bringing forth Raj's turmoiled state of mind and the spasms of helplessness and loneliness. His velvet smooth voice caresses the emotions within Raj's heart. Madan Mohan's heavely tune and Rajendra Krishna's superb lyrics give profound mood of gloom to this song. Thus, although  Lata got most of the songs, Talat in these two songs, leaves an indellible stamp,  which is unforgettable. A master piece from Madan Mohan-Talat combination.
