Yahi bahar hai Duniya ko Bhool Jane Ki

Yehi Bahhar Hai Duniyako Bhool Jaane Ki-Lata Mangeshkar-Film Raag Rang 1952- Lyricist Kaifi Irani-Music Roshan
Film Raag Rang, released in 1952, was another musical romantic film, after Roshan composed music for Anhonee and Naubahaar in the same year. The film was produced by Geeta Bali Sisters. It was directed by Digvijay Bali. Thus, it was a total in house project for Geeta Bali. Much hype was raised that time about the film, but it bombed at box office, due to it's weak plot and picturisation.
At the outset, the story is like this......Gopal (Ashok Kumar) is a music composer, who is struggling for fame and he is in search for a capable singer, who can fulfill his dream. He identifies Gopi (Geeta Bali), a street singer/dancer, and takes her as his protege. He trains her in the music. In the process, Gopi loses her heart to Gopal. However ,in Gopal's view she is just a vehicle to attain the fame and money. He does not reciprocate her feeling towards him. The director could have highlighted their emotional conflits, but the film fizzles out among scores of songs, which do not take forward the plot. It becomes a usual conflict between another singer  Roopa (Sudha Bali) and Bhimpalasi (Madanpuri) duo, who are professional rivals of Gopi and Gopal.
Bhimpalasi plants a bomb under the Goipal's piano and it results into an explosion in which Gopal loses his hands. Gopal is totally devastated. In this desperate state, he remembers his old protege, Gopi.  Gopi also comes to help him and sings. He ultimately finds olace in her voice. His art finds expressions in her voice and dance.
This is the outline of the story of Raag Rang. However Director is confused here whether to give emphasis on emotional conflict between Gopi and Gopal or musical rivalry between two pairs. In the process, the plot seeps away from his hand. The film becomes very staid with inconsequential songs which do not help the film.
In the music department, however Roshan's performance was impressive. As in film Anhonee and Naubahar, this film's music was also dominated by Lata's voice. Lata sang total five solos in the film
  1. Eri Aali Piya Bina
  2. Shaque Nahi Rupayemein Pai Ka
  3. Yahi Bahar Hai Duniya Ko Bhool Jane Ki
  4. Ye Kaisi adayen hai Unki Adayen
  5. Kiski Nazar Ka Ishara Hai Zindgi
In addition to above five solo songs, Lata had sung following duets in the film
O Maniyapuri Ke Chhaila
Karte Hai Isharein Chand Taarein
Both these songs were duets with Trilok Kapoor. (Not to be confused with Trilok Kapoor who became famous for enacting character of  God Mahadev in numerous mythological films). This Trilok Kapoor was a singer who sung in very few films under the baton of composers Hansraj Behl and Roshan and then went into oblivion. Lata also sang a duet with Talat in this film ,"Aur Hai Dil Ki Lagi." Thus the the music of Raag Rang was totally dominated by Lata, which has become a norm in the music of composer like C.Ramchandra, Roshan, Shankar Jaikisan. Lata's voice was eclipsing the other female voices in Hindi film industry.  A dawn of Lata's voice was already on horizon, and for next three decades it would dominate the film industry.
The song which appealed to me is " Yehi Bahaar Hai Duniya Ko Bhool Jaane Ki". The lyrics of Kaifi Irani bring out the zest and intense eagerness for enjoying the all encompassing youth and the emotions of love it bring with. The Cool, comforting breezes ,the gathering clouds pregnant with dew, the chirping of Koyals (in rainy season?), the the infinite beds of blossoming of flowers and honey bees hanging over them ....all these entice , intoxicate and urges her to enjoy the joys of youth.

The lyrics and the racy tune of song ,is full of happiness and creates an ambiance of zest, which engulfs the listener. Roshan has fully utilized the sweet voice of Lata to full extent. Another song in the film by Lata, which is similar in respect of mood, the rendering and the heavenly music is also a favorite of me.
"Kiski Nazar Ka Mast Ishara Hai Zindgi"
