Mere Piya Se Koi Ja Ke Kehde

Mere Piya Se Koi Jaa Ke Kehde- Lata Mangeshkar-Film Ashiana 1952-Lyricist Rajendra Krishna-Music C.Madan Mohan

Like C.Ramchandra's music, composer's Madan Mohan's music was also getting highly influenced by Lata's voice. In fact, Lata's soft and sweet voice was the weak point of both, hence it was increasingly utilised in their music. Film Ashiana's music was no exception. The film had total nine songs, of which six were solos.

1 Mera Qaraar Le Ja.
2.Mere Piya Se Koi Jake Kehde
4.Tum Chand Ke saath Chale Aao.
5.Maine Janu Mere Dil Ko Yeh Kya Ho Gaya.
6.Mukh Mod Na Lena Saajana

All these songs are treat to ears. The combination of Lata's sweet voice and Madan Mohan's wonderfully mellodious music had produced the musical gems, which keep enthralling the listners, to this date.

The story of the film very ordinary.Raju (Raj Kapoor) and Gaura (Nargis) are childhood lovers and promise to be with each other no matter what. Jeevan (Iftekhar) keeps bullying Gaura and is jealous of Raju. He overhears them professing their love for each other and conspires to separate them. He pays a visit to Gaura's father Dwarkanath (Shivraj) and tries to poison his mind against Raju but in vain. Next he tries to set fire to Raju's house but Raju and his brother soon recover from the damage. Raju decides to ask for Gaura's hand from her father. On his way he finds Jeevan trying to force himself on Gaura. A fight ensues, in which Jeevan dies. Raju gets convicted of murder and is imprisoned. Raju and Gaura both vow to strengthen their love through this period of separation. However, Gaura's father dreads the idea of getting his daughter married to a convict and arranges her marriage elsewhere despite opposition from Gaura and Raju's brother Inder. While marriage ceremony is in way, Gaura resists the marriage and in the ensuing scuffle topples over the balcony in the canal below and dies.

Devastated Raju whiles away the days in the company of a toy, which Gaura had given. He is sure Gaura is alive. All others consider him gone over the threshold of sanity. Raju experiences repeated occurances of Gaura calling him to the hills outside the village. Other people consider this as Raju's hallaucinations. On a stormy day, in the end, Raju responds to her call , she calls him to her world and both depart on a way leading to another unknown dreamland.

The story is rubbish. Characters come and go as they want, events in the story seem far fetched , especially Raju's insistence that Gaura is alive despite her obvious death and his childish clinging to a toy as a sign of their childhood love..... All this in unconvicing to viewers. No wonder the film bombed at Box office. Only the magic of Madan Mohan spared it to some extent. Every 15-20 minutes, a song comes and the viewer forgets all the drawbacks of the film for that time. All nine songs were popular.

This song and another song " Mukh Mod Na Le Na Saajana", are in sad note, when Gaura sings them onscreen recalling their childhood love and undergoing the pains of separation from her beloved Raju when he is imprisoned. Nargis's acting and mannerism's are predictable and nothing extraordinary, however these songs themseves are so beautfully composed that you wish to listen to them closing your eyes forgetting Nargis and everything else. These songs like all other songs in the film promise to transport you to another magically melodious world you, never would want to come back.
