Aa Ke Ab Aataa Nahi Dilko Qaraar

Aa Ke Ab Aataa nahi Dil Ko Qarar- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Mehbooba 1954- Lyrics Tanveer Naqvi- Music Roshan.
Mehbooba, released in 1954, was a film about nomadic peoples and their life. K. Amarnath, the Director of the film had immense fascination towards nomads and their lives. His earlier movie Bazar 1949 and future movie 'Naya Andaz 1956' , also had this theme. The songs of the film were penned by Tanveer Naqvi,  Indeevar and Majrooh Sultanpuri.  Composer Roshan recorded four songs three songs in Lata's voice
  1. Mukhtsar Si Hai Meri Kahani
  2. Aa Ke Aa Aataa Nahi Dil Ko Qarar
  3. Jo Dil Ke Malik Hai, Mehman Banke Aanewale Hai
Lata also sang a duel with Talat Mahmood under Roshan's music ' Aji Hamko Hai Tumse Pyar ' , which was filmed on lead pair Nalini Jaywant and Shammi Kapoor. It was a playful and mischievous song well rendered by both singers Then all of a sudden Director K.Amarnath replaced Roshan with composer O.P.Nayyar. However, O.P.Nayyar retained Roshan's songs and composed remaining songs. Of course his songs dod not find Lata's voice. Those songs were recorded in Rafi and Shamshad Begum's voices. O.P.Nayyar recorded following songs for the film
  1. Aate Aate Aankh Bachana, Hay Tera Jawab Nahi. (Rafi & Shamshad duet)
  2. Banka Woh Sanam Meri Rok De Rahein (Shamshad Begum)
All these songs were popular at that time. However this film also was instrumental in creating a permanent rift between Lata and O.P.Nayyar. It all started when music director Roshan was replaced by O.P.Nayyar on distributor's insistence. Writer Raju Bharatan in his book ' Lata Mangeshkar-A Biography' writes about this as follows-
"Following the runaway success of Aarpar, the typical O.P.Nayyar rhythm had so became a heartthrob of film industry ,that Director K.Amarnath sacked composer Roshan from Mehbooba film , midway, to be replaced by O.P.Nayyar. Similarly, music director Mohammad Shafi was also sacked from project of film 'Mangu' and O.P.Nayyar took the reins. Both sacked composers were dearer to Lata. She was livid and announced that she would stop singing for Mehbooba. O.P.'s sharp retort to this was ' who has asked her to sing for me ?'.  Having said this, he had an uphill task to complete the recordings of his songs for film Mehbooba, for Lata had acquired such a clout by that time, that she was capable of  shaping or destroying the careers of music directors.  Lata approached Cine Music Director's Association headed by eminent composer Anil Biswas, who disgracefully ordered halt to O.P.Nayyar's recordings. With every other singer denying singing for Mehbooba, O.P. turned to Shamshad Begum as a last resort. To her credit Shamshad  also complied with his request and completed the remaining songs."
However this created a final rift between Lata and O.P.Nayyar. The loss was that of Lata, because O.P.became the only successful music Director who did not employ Lata's voice throughout his career, and demonstrated that success can be achieved without Lata's voice. Truly a commending feat in a industry dominated by Lata's voice.
This song, which I personally like very much for it's lyrics, ardent rendering by Lata and wonderful music imparted by Roshan, ' Aa Ke Ab Aata Nahi Dil Ko Qarar' was a sad song pictured on Nalini Jaywant, who was in female protagonist role. The male lead role was played by Shammi Kapoor.
